We arrived at the lower priced sister hotel at 2am having flown for many hours only to be told they had over booked but we would be "upgraded" across the alleyway to The Pearl Grand. We were offered twin beds(no doubles available) & put on a smelly floor where water had leaked onto the carpet making it dank & mouldy smelling. There was also mould in the bathroom. Management were rude but the bellboys & kitchen staff were friendly. No alcohol anywhere(no mini bar, hotel bar - popular with Muslims) but loud louts causing a racket at all hours encouraged. Location was the only real redeeming feature.

I stayed in Pearl Grand for a day on 01 July, it is a nice hotel, rooms are a bit small, but nice. Breakfast is also good. I like the location and staff. Rooms have balconies. It is overall a nice place to stay, as compared to same price of other hotels in Colombo.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night in June on one of our regular visits to Colombo. We have now stayed at many hotels/bed and breakfast in Colombo. While this hotel initially appeared new and well presented, it soon revealed itself to be superficial at best. The rooms were ok, reasonably comfortable and well fitted out. They have tried hard but not quite pulled it off though. For example the tiles on the bathroom and shower floor are extremely slippery - quite dangerous. There are numerous other examples of poor finish and presentation. It will not take long for the hotel to look pretty average. The restaurant is hard to describe.....the décor is not even typically Sri Lankan, the lighting on the pillars through the room can be changed to red, green etc. Very poor taste. The breakfast was just ok. They tried but are a long way from providing a quality breakfast expected of a hotel at this price. There are similarly priced hotels in Colombo that are much better value!! On check out we discovered that the hotel has a 'special' unpublished USD exchange rate they use - USD$130 I think - even though they have a board advertising the actual USD exchange rate (much lower). I have lived in Sri Lanka for some time and I have never known the USD exchange rate to be this high. Beware of this scam - it may cost you quite a bit if you stay for an extended period. We definitely wouldn't stay at this hotel again.

This hotel is unremarkable in most ways - if you are looking for a standard accommodation and breakfast, it will probably suffice. It is not in a bad part of the city. The service we received was good from the bell boys but from reception was poor - strangely their English was quite lacking. The rooms are reasonably sized and the beds are comfortable.

This is our first visit to Sri Lanka, and reading other travellers' reviews we prepared for an India-like experience. But we were pleasantly surprised with the city of Colombo and Pearl Grand Hotel contributed to the pleasantness! We arrived early but were given a room right away. The family room was spacious and had all the amenities expected at a 4 star hotel. The swimming pool on the roof was a great way to cool off in the hot weather. The overall service was great. Breakfast was excellent - hot dishes in buffet style as well as an egg station. We had a dinner meal in the restaurant too which was really good.
