“Steeped in history”

Amazing church - atmospheric and steeped in history, including secret passages for bringing prisoners to church and personal chairs for important people.

“Nice Church”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

One of the very old Dutch churches in Colombo and is much worshiped by the Christian community in Colombo. A nice old church which needs a lot of attention on the building.

“Dutch Church in town worths a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

Our first stop of the Colombo trip, we paid a visit to the famous Wolvendaal Church. It is still under financial support of some churches in Europe. The architecture looks a bit old and dusty though, lots of historical scenes behind the wall. The man in charge of the church (sorry I forgot his name) was friendly to show us around and tried to tell us as many information as he can.

Unlike other places in town, it is kinda 'up to you' for donation. It doesn't force you to 'donate' a certain amount of money and stuffs... so the feeling was good and relax...

“One of the Highlights - If you are Dutch (like me)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

For me one of the highlights of a visit to Colombo, especially if you are Dutch. The caretaker is a very friendly chap who will show you around and knows a lot about the history of the church. He will ask you for a donation at the end but this is only reasonable. The donation is to be dropped in the donation box by the way.
