This is a great old building & made even better by the informative tour we were given by a member of the congregation who obviously loves it.
He told some wonderful stories, showed us many things we would have overlooked, and generally brought the building to life.

The building is a fine example of Dutch architecture in Sri Lanka. The 'meda midulla' or centre garden with a well is typical of Dutch houses in the 18 th century in Sri Lanka. Unfortunately the building is not well maintained. It being in the heart of the commercial capital of colombo, pettah makes the dust very difficult to maintain. The artifacts could have been displayed much better. This place needs a face lift. It could be a major attraction. If you like antique furniture then this place is interesting

The museum has not much to exhibit beside a few photos, documents in Dutch and furniture at Dutch period time that make it look like a furniture store on 2nd floor. If you are close by, pop in to visit, other than that, paying a tuk tuk to come here is quite a waste.

Don't expect a sophisticated museum, and it was probably a little expensive for what you get, but there are a couple of pieces of old furniture and fittings plus copies of significant historical documents and maps. The room full of 17th century tombstones was especially fascinating (all with skull and crossbones in the style of the day). We visited on a holiday but the attendant opened it for us and showed us around personally, which was great.

The Dutch Museum offers a display of old dutch furniture, but does not any value in understanding on what happened during that period.
