“Great setting, not so great menu”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

The premises is photogenic and very well maintained. One of the very few establishments in Colombo that can actually qualify as a "boutique hotel".
The restaurant *used* to serve quite good food - but the chefs changed an year or two ago - and now most dishes are quite ordinary.
Best to stick to drinks and simple dishes and avoid anything that has to be customized.
Pity, since the place has so much potential but I'm sure the place will be worth visiting once the kitchen makes a few changes.

“Very ordinary food ... excellent location and setting”
Reviewed November 3, 2011

This is set in the Park Street Hotel, one of the oldest in Colombo. It is a colonial bungalow with a history of ownership of political/business elite (Moosajee/Jayewardene). The parking is a little limited, and the "out" gate is opened only when someone is leaving. The starters are priced similar to the main courses, It is run by Chef Charles (aka Chalaka) who lives and works in New York, and visits every quarter (or so we are told). The food is very ordinary, with tough steaks and lamb. The fish dishes are probably the pick, as they are purchased fresh from the market and perfectly cooked. The portion of chips is quite stingy, but the accompanying salads are large and generous. They only have a certain type of bread, and it is not as warm as it should be (no warm bread rolls or grissini). The prices are a little too steep for the quality of the dishes, though the service and ambiance are quite good. There are two "romantic" (the waiter's description) tables on the verandah outside the pretty red-hued air conditioned section, but the glass means those inside can see you through it. The tiramisu had an unacceptable butter cake base, and was quite ordinary and a little too sweet. The Gallery Café and the Bay Leaf, also Il Ponte and Echo are much better. Not recommended: go to Park Street Mews down the road instead.

“If only the food tasted as good as the ambiance”
Reviewed June 22, 2011

First off the Restaurant has a great eclectic vibe to it, but unfortunately the food did not match up to everything else about the place. It may not have helped that the 4 of us ordered the same thing - the Steak! the meat was quite chewy and the portion of fries was minute! maybe the other dishes on the menu may have been good, but alas I wont be going back to find out.

“Delicious food , great atmosphere”
Reviewed May 22, 2011

I ve visited the bistro 3 times so far, absolutely love the menu and its versatilaty. Food was very good, presentation was great, the service could be picked up a notch but the staff are friendly and helpful though maybe not the most efficient! However its a very laid back, casual and peaceful atmosphere, so you feel like you are being served gourmet food in the privacy of your own home. Would definitely visit again and again.

“Great international cuisine in a fabulous setting”
Reviewed May 12, 2011

I am from New Zealand and have been in Sri Lanka for the last 3 months now and I have to say that there is not a great variety of food in Colombo. That is when I was invited to try out Soho Bistro at the park street hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the great cuisine and the new york styled bistro on top of that what a great atmosphere.
I highly recommend this Soho Bistro to all the tourists and locals alike, you will not be dissapointed.
Great Job!
