Food at Seaspray Restaurant was pretty ordinary. Would not reccomend to anyone. If not for the seafood lasagne, there wasn't anything that I could reccomend. Even the pineapple juice was quite watery. We were wondering since they didn't have a salad buffet but saw it when we went for the dessert. Salad buffet was in a corner inside while the main buffet was outside and no one can see till you go for your dessert. Quite dissappointed.....Will not go again....

Had a room at the classic wing (the original building) and we were glad we did so!
The place is full of charm. The rooms are comfortable and clean. All you could expect from a hotel of this category you will find there. Robe, slippers, toiletries, the works :-)
You can feel time has made a good work with this hotel. It's a classical colonial building set on the water. The pool is very nice and the sunset is just priceless! Believe me, you will be mesmerized with the sunset you get to see from the pool or the bar.
Food is good and it's very goos value for money.
Colombo is not as an uninteresting city as you read. It's not Bangkok but it's a nice place! Give it a chance.

My two sisters and I stayed for one night on the 13th February 2013. Entrance, foyer, restaurants and public areas are all very grand. Accommodation was ok. Room was huge but a bit tired. Bathroom tiles were a bit grubby with cleaning lacking some attention to detail. View over the Green was lovely. Location on the beach was very impressive.

We booked a driver for the day at the Tour desk, they were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful, leaving our luggage in reception which we would collect after the days sightseeing. We were flying out late that night.

The biggest plus was the service offered to us over and beyond expectations. One of my sister's became very ill after checking out. We asked our driver to take us back to the Hotel so we could book a room for the day so she could rest. The Hotel was booked out (it was Valentines Day) so the Receptionist spoke to the Assistant Manager who sorted everything for us.

My sister spent the rest of the day in the Private Members lounge, had use of the day spa for a shower and was seen by a Doctor. All Arranged by the Assistant Manager without hesitation. She felt terrible but was treated like royalty. We couldn't fault the sevice.

Nice enough hotel in a nice location with very impressive public spaces but small and unimpressive bedrooms. The food was disappointing with a fairly indifferent dinner buffet and overall the hotel isn't really as good as it thinks it is!
Beware that though the hotel bill was presented in rupees when it appeared on our credit card statement it had been converted into sterling!

Here is very important information if you look at reviews and see poor reviews of this hotel. The hotel's an old colonial place with an unmatched setting in the centre of the city beside the sea. Why mixed reviews? Because in some ways there are 2 hotels here. The old wing I do not choose, character yes, but rain can come in when it rains and the windows rattle. Hence reasonable criticism
But there is a new wing that is only marginally more expensive. Here are all the attributes you would look for in a 5 star hotel with the best of both worlds. Easily the best rooms in Colombo, though I have only stayed in the larger so-called' 5 star' hotels, only one of which is really 5 star and if you are looking here you have found it!

Room Tip: New wing is a mus.t if you want western standards
