I mixed up my date and booked the room one day later than my actual arrival. But they allow me to check-in and change the booking free of charge. The reception's attitude was very nice. The room was clean. The bathroom was well-equipped.

We didn't book any room in advance and go around by tuk tuk to look for hotel, since the one at opposite is not cheap, more than 100usd so we decided to try this one, reception is awful, look so old and keep everything from the 80s, we asked for a clean and high floor room, oh my god the room painted in pink color, very old, very small, toilet also becoming yellow color, in my opinion it is like a hourly motel for those prostitute to work there. We feel so bad there and didn't check-in at all. This is kind of a place where look like 20 years without maintenance and you feel pressure sitting inside. If you have some money try to avoid this place !

We booked this hotel but at check in they told us we'll be upgraded to rhe Pearl Grand Hotel. This was directly next door. I can just say something to the Pearl Grand.

Reception was absolutely nice and helpfull. The room was not very big (the only minus). It had a big flat TV , a DVD player, a nice bathroom with a big shower and the bed was unbelieable confortable! There was also a small balcony for smoking.

The best is on top of the roof is a swimming pool with a beautiful view over Colombo.

Brekfast was good. Whith a lot of warm Sri Lankan food and also muesli, froods, toast etc.

The hotel is 2 km from the main station (Colombo Fort). The way takes about 20 Minutes because of the traffic. Distance to the airport took more then 1 hour by taxi and price was 2800 Rupien (about 20 $).

By the way: Colombo is ok for a overnight stay when you arrive but the city itself is just loud, crowded, stinky and not interisting for tourists!

Hotel is ideally located for a budget class hotel with the main street right at the corner and a great view of the ocean.

But the product is poor overall and mismanaged.

Having a slightly better sister hotel adjoining called the Pearl Grand does not seem to have any positive influence.

The building despite being not to old is poorly maintained, the paint is coming off in many parts and there seems to be water seepage everywhere.

One can smell dampness and the furnishing is of poor taste. The breakfast is charged and there is very little to say in terms of taste and presentation.

The room is overdone but poorly maintained. Stepping down from the bath tub to the floor could lead to a broken bone as the tiles are slippery.

The flush does not work, the Aircon leaks and the CRT TV never worked.

Would rather pay a few bucks more and stay in a simple but well managed hotel next time.

Stayed in this hotel last week of April 2013 for just 02 nights. Charged US$60.00 a night for a deluxe room. Deluxe Room size OK. Close to major shopping areas. Room not very clean, found some cockroach inside toilet & room. No LCD TV and movie channels very few. OK for a short stay if spending your most of the time shopping and .......

The Pearl City Hotel is the perfect base from which a Sri Lanka newbie can explore Colombo. We paid £87.80 through Agoda, com for 2 nights room only in a "deluxe" room. Our 7th floor room was very clean, with a spotless bathroom and comfy big beds, even if the decor and fittings were dated (think late-80s business motel). However, we had a great view of the sea and the bustling Galle Road below. The housekeeping/porter service was excellent and the reception staff were really helpful with directions and recommendations.
However, for us its most outstanding attraction was the rooftop pool next door at the Pearl City's newer, more expensive sister hotel, the Pearl Grand. I don't know if it was a concession offered only to us, but we were allowed full use of this fantastic pool whenever we wanted. If has amazing views across the city, and a reasonably priced rooftop cafe/bar where you can order snacks and watch the sun go down. So why pay twice the price at the Pearl Grand?
