Lovely house, clean, great quite, open-air place to stay. The old lady that owns it will talk your ear off so be prepared but she (and the house) have some wonderful history to hear about.

I would recommend it for someone wanting a quiet space.

No food stores are near so you need to walk / tuk tuk to get food or have the big and yummy in house breakfast. It's located amongst the street of the ambassadors houses.

Stayed here for two nights on a recent trip to Sri Lanka - and was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The house is fantastic - something out of a magazine - and I felt it to be a privilege to stay in this family home of the 80 year old owner of the house. The woman who runs the place is lovely, but she is 80, so you need to be patient. Also, the home has an open-air architectural style, so the bedrooms have walls that don't go up to the ceiling. So if you are the type who has loud Skype calls at all hours don't stay here. It's a peaceful place and the people who stay there should respect it. It really does feel like you are a guest at the owners house, so if you want more privacy to do what you like I wouldn't stay here. But if you are mature enough to appreciate this very special experience to stay at a prestigious old family home in the heart of the exclusive and beautiful Cinnamon Gardens, then please stay here, you will love it!

We arrived here only to be told that they were fully booked. Even though we called a few days before our booking mysteriously disappeared.
After bout 20minutes the lady discovered that our name had indeed been written down but then crossed out.

The most frustrating part of the situation was that the women and her staff weren't trying to help our situation. We even asked if they could call a guesthouse nearby but to no avail.

In the end they allowed us to sleep on a mattress on the floor but still charged us R2,000. And then attempted to charge an addition R200 service fee.

To be fair, the lady that runs the place is really lovely. I just don't think she's in a position to be running a guest house successfully.

Be wary of your booking and be prepared for the owner to forget who you are, if you've paid and when you're leaving/coming.

Parisare - Colombo

Go before its too late.
Set in the lovely cinnamon gardens area of the city this place is the dogs.

The house was built in the late 50's to early 60's the owner cannot remember.
The way it is set out is lovely. There is alot of history inthe house and talk to the owner she has so many stories to tell you could spend an afternoon with just her.
Her grandfather was knighted by the queen and her grandmother was the first female MP in Sri Lanka.
At her wedding she had the British governor general there who also signed her marriage cert. a young page boy at the wedding also made it to her golden wedding anerverisor, at this time he was the current prime minister.
The breakfast is very nice.
We loved this place.
The downsides are it is open plan and noises do carry, as do the insects.
The owner is getting on and for us she made the place.
Loved it loads

As pointed out, bookings will be mixed at this place, so Your not guaranteed a room until you have it. Call to confirm the same day.

This is a very integresting place to stay. The owner welcomes you and will gladly tell about Sri Lanka, tour the uniqe house and her familiy. This makes the place a truly uniqe experience.

The rooms are 2500, a bargain in colombo!

This is definitely a different guest house. If you are interested, the owner (an 80+ year old lady) will tell you everything about her family and how she got into possession of Victorian age furniture and elephant tusks.
But other than that, the rooms are really nice and tidy, nice to look into a garden when you wake up. The breakfast is just good as well.
It is just that she asked me several times where I was from etc. I guess its not too far fetched that she forgets reservations, but my friends already stayed here four times with no problems, but a call ahead should close the deal.

To conclude, if you are in Colombo, this is a really nice and unique guesthouse!

Myself and my partner have stayed with Sunetra (the land lady) of Parisare on 3 occasions now, and on each occasion we have had a brillliant time!

The reviewer who titled their review "A refugee in Colombo" is ridiculous and this is really not a fair judgement of this B&B. I agree with another reviewer that Sunetra's helper Peter should take over the booking process and running of Parisare however considering the price of this place per night (extremely well priced for Colombo!) and the fact that the house is stunning and unique, I really think this place is a brilliant place to stay! Yes Sunetra is awful with remembering bookings (we also experienced this 1st hand and witnessed another couple of travellers being turned away due to over-booking) however we both agree that it is worth making a quick phone call to Sunetra the day before and re-confirming your booking. After making this phone call, we had no further problems.

If you're looking for a non-descript, functional hotel room with mod-cons then no this place is not for you. However I think you would be crazy not to enjoy your time here. Sunetra is like an elderly relative. She is very keen to chat about what you've been doing and to tell you about her (very interesting and privileged) life. She would often knock on our bedroom door and ask if we wanted to read things like her husbands journal and other books relating to the family/Sri Lankan history. This was a highlight of our stay!

The breakfast was great. They even serve real coffee!
Cleanliness we found was also brilliant. Apart from a bit of dust in some places in the bedroom, everthing else was very clean.
Peter and the 2 ladies who help Sunetra are brilliant. Always ready to help you.
The photos on here don't do the house justice. If you do choose to stay here you could spend hours looking round the house with Suetra, looking at the family pictures and heir-looms.
Yes there are no locks on the doors however if you do stay here you will realise that this is not a problem. The house is situated in a extremely secure position. To gain access to the house, someone has to open the main gate. Having said this, we always took our passports and cash with us, as we would if we were staying in a hotel.

Overall, this house was a highlight of Sri Lanka for us and we would definitely recommend persisting with the booking problems and staying here!
