This is the former home of the Bandaranaike family situated in District 7, Colombo's classiest district. It has been converted into a 10 rooms boutique hotel providing comfort, good food and impeccable friendly service. It is not cheap but it is unique to Colombo with the sense of being in a comfortable private home, which one is. There is a swimming pool, an attractive patio, in which meals may be taken, and a charming study where there is a computer for guests to use. My only criticism is that my sideways facing room was rather dark and the computer is not linked to a printer. Laundry is farmed out to the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, a large zoo of a place, and the hotel does not have a liquor licence

Room Tip: chose a room facing out to the front

It was nice to stay here after having traveled in the countryside for a week. The rooms are clean and modern. The hotel itself is interesting as it has history, however I'm not sure it should be as expensive as it is. Breakfast was filling and it is in a safe, rather quiet section of Colombo from what we could tell. Noise (loud chatter) from the reception reached our room at night and that was the only downfall. Tuktuks are parked outside the hotel and can be called quickly to the door. We were even brought welcome brownies after settling in :)

Room Tip: Get as far away from the reception/staircase as you can to avoid noise at night

Stayed here in September 2012 and after going through my agoda account I just noticed how much I paid for this hotel and it is definitely not worth it. The bathroom was not up to standard, the breakfast service was not up to standard, asked for a proper taxi, not a tuk tuk to the get to the cricket, and guess what, a tuk tuk was waiting for us, which we declined and then had to wait another 20 mins for the taxi and missed the beginning of the match. I had read about sound issues from the reception to the bedrooms but I don't expect that I have to get up and close the banging fire exit, I'm sure the receptionist could have heard it and it was just little things as well like the mosquito net being cheap and ill fitting and TV channels not working... an overpriced disappointment :O(

Room Tip: don't take the one near the front of the building as your balcony is a communal balcony with th...

I unfortunately only stayed overnight in this gorgeous boutique hotel and I wished I could have stayed here longer! It is a charming colonial mansion with a modern twist. I stayed in the North East room which had a beautiful canopied four poster bed. I had dinner and breakfast here and both were delicious. The service was great, with very attentive and friendly staff. I can not fault this hotel and would highly recommend it.

A one hour flight away from my home town is a true blue jewel in Sri Lanka's hospitality crown. Named after King Arthur's castle of the same name, TINTAGEL is the ultimate in discreet and discerning luxury and impeccable attentiveness. From the spacious rooms, once the private residence of the political royalty of the island - the Bandaranayake family - this 12 room stunner has been updated by architect Shant Fernando and cares for each guest like a member of an exclusive family. The breakfast fare has the best croissants anywhere in the world, great coffee and fabulous eggs ! The international menu is in one word - delicious and each ingredient is of the highest quality. The spacious rooms, large beds and huge bathrooms with balconies are the stunning and so is the service. More expensive than other hotesl in the city but so so worth it for couples and smart independent travellers

Room Tip: The hotel is a private residence and so only has the ground floor and the first floor. Take rooms aw...

Went with my mother and my mother-in-law for dinner. Food was fabulous and gorgeous atmosphere. They really enjoyed walking around and having a look at the great mansion of the Bandaranayake's. Really enjoyed and would reccomend to anyone....

We loved everything about this hotel. From the decor to the large suite we stayed in to the A La carte breakfast. The staff were incredibly friendly and very helpful. They currently do not have an alcohol licence but they can purchase wine or anything else for you if you require. We sat out one evening on our terrace drinking wine and watching a massive colony of fruit bats fly over. A perfect place to stay in busy Colombo. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Book a superior suite for great space and comfort.
