Pros

1) setting is quite nice... and you feel quite posh pointing out your fresh seafood of choice. Quite nice and not smelly at all :)

2) they got some good combinations of dishe, sauces that you can get... and the sides are great too.... not over powering so that the true stars of the restaurant can shine..... which are of course the wide range of seafood.

3) i reckon they cook hot butter cuttle fish the best here.... the texture is just perfect and soft... cooked all the way through without a rubbery texture that this dish is famous for having at other institutions around colombo. Perfect crispy exterior...with a soft interior!!

4) the whole fish is done perfectly here... crispy in sweet sauces or steamed with subtle thai flavors ... awesome!

5) service is quite quick and polite.

6) baked crab is a must try too... small portion.... bt quite rich in flavor!!

Cons

1) too costly... hotel restaurant... hotel prices!! :(

2) drinks / juices..... cost a kidney... and are meh :)

Remember not to go in shorts and flip flops (though they provide emergency sarongs). Good variety of seafood. Chefs were flexible and accommodated our requests eg local fish sashimi.

If you're having crab, be sure to ask for the export quality Sri Lankan crab which is meatier.

Be sure to make a reservation. We went on a week night and it was so full that we saw several people being turned away.

Reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised that their bottled water cost less than at some cafés.

Visited for dinner with business colleagues which included a few foreigners. Everyone loved the ambience and the way the fresh fish were laid out to pick and choose. The shoe lobster came out nicely prepared and the tamarind fish was excellent! We also had Garlic rice and Fish Roe which were very tasty. The service was excellent and the food preparation and presentation were top notch.

My foreign colleagues loved every bit of it and the visit definitely would have made a lasting impression on them.

Best fish on the island, you get to chose and weigh out just what you want and how you want it prepared.

fresh sea food for all tastes. This is a market style seafood restaurant that will surprise you. I am from a fish-eating country but let me say at the The Lagoon really nice fish. I didnt like much of the shrimps, as they taste more like the ones from aquaculture.
