Right across from Parliament, Sukhbataar Square. Big funky rooms, good internet access, OK cafe. However, all-night construction right across the alley meant no sleep. Moved room after first night and out altogether after second.

Got an opportunity to stay in this hotel. Nice quite hotel with a good old world charm. Surprisingly it had an Indian Restaurent -delhi Durbar. The Wi-fi not available in rooms but you can access internet through the wire. There are not much english channels which can act as a bit disappointment.

The good parts: great location across from Sukhbaatar Square, near Opera House, Center Tower, Government Building, etc; free breakfast buffet; very clean (housekeeping staff is wonderful!); nice coffee shop and Delhi Darbar Restaurant. The bad parts: Weather was exceptionally hot (35-40C) during my visit and the lack of AC, not normally needed, was a minus (they did give me fans for the room). Desk clerks varied from quite friendly to downright sulky. Mattress was like concrete (I'm an avid camper and don't mind sleeping on hard surfaces but a hotel should offer something better than this!). Windows (which had to be open because of the heat) fronted on an all-night construction site, treating us to floodlight shining in and the sounds of hammers and rumbling dump trucks all night. Only sheer exhaustion permitted sleep. Also a bit expensive for the quality. And beware the single rooms - they're truly only for one person. For two to stay together a larger, and more expensive, room is necessary.

Having had a very pleasant stay at the Puma Imperial in 2006 I looked forward to a similar experience this time around. Sadly, this was not to be the case. The hotel has not been maintained and has suffered for it. Our first room had only 1 light that worked and the shower was broken. Our request for another room was dealt with courteously and without hassle (the staff is great). Our second room had peeling wallpaper and huge cracks and waterstains on the walls and ceiling. For the $105 rate you could do better than the Puma.

Was staying in Mongolia for over a month on business, spent 3 weeks of that in UB. Stayed two nights in the Puma Imperial. Hotel is clean and has a few mod cons. My room was oddly shaped however and was quiet small. Doors of the rooms were quiet strange as they opened out into the corridor. Staff were pleasant. There is an Indian resturaunt on the ground floor which serves very nice food and is at a very reasonable price. Ate there a few nights however on my final night I had only US dollars and hardly any mongolian currency. The manager of the Indian tried to give me a rate of 1 dollar to 1 Togrog. The rate at the time was 1 US to 1.35 Togrog. Basically she was trying to screw me for more than 30% more so be aware that people will take advantage if you are not awake! Went to the reception of the hotel and changed at the correct rate.

There is a Bank just on the very near the hotel should you need to change cash. Also there was an ATM machine in the lobby that accepted Cirius cards.

Stayed here for about a week and a half during a business conference in the Fall of 2005 and also used it as a hub during some visits to some of the more remote areas in Mongolia.

It was a conveniently located place (right next to Government House) and within walking distance to my meeting centre, the State Department store and other shopping areas.

The restaurant was alright for breakfasts, being the typical buffet style in most of the larger Mongolian hotels.

Even had a business centre off the lobby with internet access.

All in all, very reasonable place to stay in UB.
