“How I wish I had find this hostel earlier!”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

I stayed there my very last night in UB, after hopping from one hotel to the next. This is the one! The hostel rate makes it a very affordable place to stay and it's extremely well located right in the heart of downtown. The staff was helpful and welcoming and even all the guests appeared to be friendly. It was like a little oasis of friendliness. Who can ask for more? The have a desk computer available for the guests in the main lounge area, a big map of UB and many books and advises. The room I stayed in (building 2) was clean and quiet. The only issue was that the wireless didn't seam to reach the room. They also organised my taxi to go to the airport, which by the way, was far cheaper than other hotels (15$). I really recommend this place!

Room Tip: Lonely Planet recommends staying in building 2. This is what I did and enjoyed my stay very much. So...

We stayed here for 3 nights on a short stay in Ulaanbaatar while on the trans-Mongolian train trip. Very friendly staff, Omar gave us good advice and helped us organizing a day trip to Terelj National Park where we visited a local family in their ger, it was a wonderful experience. Room was very clean and a simple breakfast was provided each morning. Good location, just off Peace Avenue. All the staff were always smiling and happy to help you, would recommend!

Zaya's is wonderful, sparkling clean, hot powerful showers, full kitchen, wireless + computer, reasonable tours and transfer services, great location...can't say enough about it. Compared with another UB Hostel we had one night in (not to be named - but a very popular choice) Zaya's is a real home.

Stayed here one night on arrival and then my last night after a Ger Camp visit. Great Guest House in a good location, clean, secure and Zaya is very helpful and efficient. Would recommend if arriving by train to arrange with them to have a pickup ($3) - the driver was outside my train carraige and it saved time and potential overcharging by station taxi drivers. Perhaps not the place to stay if you want to meet others sharing a dorm. I pre-booked a single room and was sent loads of useful info before arrival. Liked my stay here and would highly recommend.

we stayed at Zaya Hostel for 3 days. Owned and run by Zaya. She reports to be well educated and wife of a diplomat who has travelled extensively. Was very proud of Mongolia, and had mature views on a range of topics. She took the time to meet each guest, and try to help where-ever possible. Great location, altohugh hard to find first up (we were picked up from the airport). Rooms are very clean, altohugh basic. Ours had en suite bathroom. Is hostel - not hotel. But very well suited to our needs. Would rather stay here than many hotels we have stayed at.

We had a trouble finding it - did not expect a hostel in a block of flats! But when we got there after long journey from Russia - we were so happy to get a clean and comfy room. We stayed in the 2 floor apartment and had it for ourselves - nice room, big lounge room with TV and comfy sofa, clean kitchen with all facilities for self-catering, bathroom with a big bath (with jacuzzi tub but did not work), laundry services cheap and quick. Zaya and all stuff very helpful. Arranged a taxi and trip to Ginghis Khan statue and stay in gers (although we went out of season). Although we stayed only 2 nights, we would came back and recommend this place!

Room Tip: Poor WIFI, but very nice place to stay. I would book 2 floor apartment, as you only share with 1 mor...

i am a mature [60+] female solo traveller and wanted a safe but inexpensive place to stay between excursions in mongolia. i chose zaya's because of other reviews on tripadvisor, but held out little hope it would live up to my expectations. i needn't have worried. zaya's is called a hostel, but it is really much more than that. not only does she have shared rooms and/or bathrooms, but she also has a few rooms that are ensuite and that you can have as a single - that is if you book far enough in advance. zaya's is just off Peace ave, the main thoroughfare, but because it is set back in a little alleyway you do not hear the traffic at all. practically anything worth seeing in ulaanbaatar is within walking distance. although a modest breakfast is included in the room price, there is also a dedicated kitchen facility for guests' use if they want to make something more or simply self cater. there is also a lounge complete with tv and wi-fi access for guests in addition to the computer that is at the guests disposal in the breakfast room. zaya, the proprietor, couldn't be more helpful. she can help with everything from taxis to tours and is a wealth of information about the city and the country. she is also a very intelligent and interesting, well-travelled person and fluent in english and in russian. an added plus is the interesting people you meet while there. many charities such as habitat for humanity and earthwatch use zaya's as a base and meeting point, as do solo travellers from all over europe, asia and america. i would recommend zaya's to anyone travelling to ulaanbaatar, but especially to solo travellers as i never for a moment felt unsafe, even in such a large city in a remote destination.

Room Tip: room 1 quite spacious, is en suite and has a double bed. it is also quiet as there is only one other...
