“Great hotel”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

I stayed in this hotel for business with one colleague during one week in mid-October. Everything was just perfect:
-an excellent & dedicated team (welcoming, smiling, helpful..)
-the rooms are clean & practical. We were upgraded for free to some very nice rooms as some of them were empty.
-The breakfast is more than sufficient (great quantities)
-there is also a small bar, which is quite nice.
-The manager makes his best so you can feel nearly at home.. He accompanied us to a touristic trip during week-end, which was such a great experience!
So if I had to come back to UB, I would definitely come back there.

Our group of 28 individuals used 14 rooms for a little more than one week in September 2013. They assisted us with the majority of our meals along with our transportation needs. The rooms were clean with nice furniture & plenty of space. The staff did all they could to meet every need that we had. They also asked frequently during our stay for feedback on how we were doing both at their hotel and in the community, and if there was anything else that we needed. If we return, this will be our first choice for overnight accommodations. We have stayed in several other hotels in Ulaan Baatar, and this is one of the best and the rate is very attractive.

We arrived during a power cut, the entire neighborhood was dark. The manager was extremely helpful and made us feel welcome even in this difficult situation. The staff cooked us an excellent dinner (in the dark!) and the manager was there at 5am when we had to leave for the airport. The service went above and beyond the norm. Just brilliant. Highly recommended!

We picked this hotel because it was close to the station and we had an early morning train.

Staff at reception were friendly and helpful. They came up to our room late at night to help us work the shower, and were available 24 hours. They were also happy to let us check in a few hours early.

The room was large. However, there was very little toilet roll and still rubbish in the bins from a previous resident. There were only two power points, and they were hanging from the wall. We booked a double but got a twin. We also couldn't work the shower - there was a hidden switch to turn it on. We eventually had to ask for help. There appeared to be no hot water available in the wash basin. The alarm clock was incorrectly set and didn't seem to work. The safe also seemed to have a permanent error. This wasn't a cheap hotel and basics like cleaning, adequate power points etc shouldn't be overlooked.

The hotel isn't easy to find. The map on the website is useless. The locals don't seem to know - our driver stopped several times and no-one knew. Eventually it took two phone calls and half an hour of circling the station.

Whilst convenient for the station, the hotel's a long way from the centre (30-40 minutes walk) and there's not much in the local area. We were also surprised to find that they wouldn't change currency - this was a service we'd expected in a large, chain hotel aimed at business guests.

Because of our early departure, we didn't get to try breakfast and weren't offered any early morning alternative.

This hotel doesn't officially open until December, 2013 according to the Best Western gazette. And it feels like it's got a few teething problems to sort out before it's quite ready. We felt that we'd paid over the odds for a below par stay.

General Manager Erdenbayer and his staff were absolutely wonderful. So friendly and accommodating -- arranging via email to pick me up from the airport when I arrived and drive me back to meet my group the next morning. Erdenbayer came on both trips to the airport, showed me to my room, AND carried my bags. He also escorted another traveler from my group to an ATM so that she didn't have to walk alone. Breakfast was wonderful and the rooms were lovely. If I ever get to return to UB, I will stay at this hotel again. Hotel staff and GMs here in the U.S. could take a lesson in hospitality from Erdenbayer and the staff at the Gobi's Kelso!

It is a very nice hotel and I loved their pub. It is the first Best Western in Mongolia to be opened. Because it is very new they were not fully Best Western yet at least there was no sign yet. I liked the fact that my room had a massage shower not a bathtub. I thought that the staff was friendly. The price was ok, but over all Ulaanbaatar was very expensive.
