The horse has become such an ubiquitous domesticated animal that it is nearly impossible to find truly wild horses anywhere. We were eager to see wild (as opposed to feral) horses and decided to visit Khustai Nuruu national park for that purpose. We arranged a private glamping trip to the park and found the entire park to be a stunning area with beautiful views all around. (in June).

The wild horses were beautiful and we were within about 50 feet of them. There are also a lot of other small wildlife in the park and we saw tons of marmots. Overall, the park is a beautiful place in which one can see wild horses and it is only about 3 hours from Ulaanbatar, so it is a good overnight or weekend trip.

This was one of the coolest trips we had done. We stayed at the ger camp here, after seeing some of the Takhi. The roads are rough through the park, but the hiking is incredible. Bring your binoculars and tugriks cos there is a lot to see and the gift shop is a lovely way to support the park.

The national park is definitely worth a visit, both too see the horses and support the work that the people there are doing to protect them.

Hustai is a lovely national park - Hustai is the home of the famous and rare Mongolian wild horses. We stayed in the ger camp and had both dinner and breakfast- good and plentiful food. Good accommodations with shared restroom/shower facilities.

We got to see the only species of the horse that has not been domesticated. There were also many different types of lovely animals in the national park.
