“Home to wild horses "Turk"”
Reviewed March 22, 2014

Located west part of UB, towards the direction of Euroasia continental, compare to Terelj National Park, Hustai is well-known for its nature home to Wild Horses namely "Turk", Julia Roberts was here few years ago to have one documentary about nomad family and Hustai National Park recorded.

It is a good idea for weekends short escape, food served is good and preparation close to European style.

I encountered this snow storm during my second last day of stay, our journey was very challenging and nearly trapped in the middle of express way which stock with thick snow trapped.

“Another good trip (2 days) out of UB”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

The park is nice and the Ger camp ok (food is poor like almost anywhere outside UB). Good to stay overnight hoping to see the horses early morning with good light and nice colors for pictures.

“Why visit Hustai?”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

Khustain (Hustai) Nuruu National Park is an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It comprises mainly steppe ecosystems but also some taiga forests and alpine vegetation. Khustai Nuruu aims to preserve threatened forest/steppe ecosystem, which, elsewhere, have been destroyed by over-exploitation. The site is further noted for its successful reintroduction of the endemic Przewalski/Takhi horse (Equus przewalskii). In addition, the quality and variety of ecosystems within the park support a variety of other wildlife such as Siberian Marmots and Red Deer.

During the summer months, the best time of the day for viewing the (sometimes elusive) Takhi is the early morning and early evening - they ascend to the high mountain-tops to stay cool during the heat of the day and only come down to the low-lying valleys when the day loses its heat. At any time of year, it is a glorious region for hiking and exploring.

There is a variety of accommodation available through different ger camps. However, the main ger camp is located at the main entrance to the national park where there is a small but quite informative museum on Khustain and the Takhi horse.

Bikes are available for rent and horse trekking is also an option. Be aware, that in the summer months, around sunset, the ger camp and national park can get busy,

“Not as spectacular as Terelj”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Great for a visit but if you're short on time, spent it at Terelj National Park instead. If you're lucky though, you might get to see the original Mongolian horses roaming this area.

“Magnificent horses”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

I would recommend getting to Hustai early in the day in order to have time to see the Preszwalski horses. It was a real thrill to see an animal that I have only seen in a zoo out in the wild running free.
