Great for a visit but if you're short on time, spent it at Terelj National Park instead. If you're lucky though, you might get to see the original Mongolian horses roaming this area.

I would recommend getting to Hustai early in the day in order to have time to see the Preszwalski horses. It was a real thrill to see an animal that I have only seen in a zoo out in the wild running free.

It is reasonably nice as parks go and there is some wildlife to view (particularly the marmots, and black kites around the camp), wildflowers over summer and the views if you walk to the top of any of the hills are nice However, this park is all about the horses!

I arrived at Hustai NP in the afternoon - checked in and had late lunch - and went to see the horses a bit before sunset (best light and it is the time when the marmots are most active) The ger camp itself is large and a bit crowded, the plumbing leaves a bit to be desired, there is in information and souvenir ger. The gers were clean + tidy and food was good - but its all about the horses not the gers or food

The gers (yurts) are warm and cozy. The stoves can be lit for you and kept going through the night. The landscape was wild and beautiful, roads are rough but we saw elk and heard them bugling, and saw several deer stones. Well worth the two hour or so drive from UB.

I'd wanted to see these horses since I was about 6 (that's 53 years). We weren't disappointed. We went with a guide who seemed to know exactly where to go to find them. It's amazing to see the horses portrayed on the cave paintings at Lascaux. These animals were around along with the wooly mammoth.
