Having a meal at The Veranda restaurant here in Ulaanbaatar is always a pleasant experience. And now, with the addition of a few items to their already extensive menu, you will never run out of options.

Today, I feasted on herb-crusted baked white fish (new item). Accompanied by cheesy potato gratin and bacon-wrapped asparagus, it was definitely a star choice. My friend and colleague dipped into fresh mushroom risotto. We also had spicy shrimp bruschetta (new item). We then decided to have three spoons each (and more!) of their creamy creme brulee and we were again ready to tackle the -31C winter day.

Other additions included Moroccan style mutton with couscous.

All Veranda offerings come reasonably priced. No rip-offs. And the staff are friendly.

We have enjoyed going to veranda for lunch or dinner in fall, winter,or spring. The ambiance is so comfortable, the wide menu, large wine list and friendly service are great. It is my favorite restaurant in UB and is conveniently located near Chinggis Khan square and State department. We go there with friends often. In the summer and fall sitting out on the veranda and looking at the view from the Monestary to the Blue sky is so relaxing and quite a juxtaposition. Well worth a stop if you are only there for a short while or staying longer.

Good food, gorgeous verandah overlooking one of the few remaining monastery compounds ( not sure if there are still monks there though- I think not). Service is good but can be very slow at peak times ( which seems to be most of the time - at least in the summer months). Better to book in advance or you might be seated in the enclosed verandah on the left as you come upstairs which is a bit claustrophobic. The restaurant is vey European/ California. A bit of a relief after living in gers in the countryside. Avoid the carrot bread - it really is odd.

This place has a good variety of food and drinks, both Mongolian and Western, and is handily located in central UB. Busy at lunch time with local business people, as well as a few tourists.

You are eating Italian food in Mongolia, its not going to taste like the food in Italy. That said, Italian is an often copied cuisine and this place doesn't do a bad job of it. The Spaghetti bolognase was very tasty but the beef kebab (not Italian obviously...) was fairly average. Wait staff were excellent however.
