Do NOT EAT here unless you want get SICK!. The food is never fresh. Prices are high, service bad. Do NOT even try and smoke the Waterpipe (Shisha, Hookah) here. I got a serious infection on my lips from it!!!

STAY AWAY !!!

Good for: NOTHING !

“Great food at a great price.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2011

A busy Indian restauruant that serves a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes (including a good selection of vegetarian options). The service was good, the food was great and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.

“Not the Best Indian in Town, but Central and Friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2011

The Delhi Darbar is up one flight of stairs in a building half way down the street which runs between the State Department Store and the Circus (there is another Delhi Darbar in the Puma Hotel). The staff are welcoming and friendly. The room is very pleasant – bright and airy, with big glass windows with the light shining in through pictures of Indian scenes, including a giant photograph of the Taj Mahal. Go up the second flight of steps and you are in the Sutra Lounge – the ideal place for a pre-dinner drink.

The food at the Delhi Darbar is standard Indian: a mix of biryanis, curries and kebabs, with the usual complement of vegetarian dishes, rice and naans. There is nothing wrong with it, least of all after a few beers. But I can’t help wondering whether the menu is too long for any real cooking to get done, and in this price bracket I would expect the meat to be of better quality. The cook is described as a “master chef”. He could do better. It is all a bit bland. This may be a concession to Mongolian tastes, but is unsatisfactory for people who grew up eating Indian food. The tandoori dishes come in tandoori flavoured sauce. It would be asking a bit much to expect a tandoori oven in downtown Ulaanbaatar, but the effect is not the same, particularly with not very good catering chicken. The portions are huge, though, and a takeaway lasts a weekend.
