“Good food, don't much like their beer”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

We've eaten here several times. My wife and I enjoy the selection of German specialties. Prices are reasonable.

They serve their own beer and I don't much care for it - tastes like my own early tries at homebrew. I haven't tried it lately, maybe I just had a marginal batch...

Service is usually quite good. The atmosphere is a bit dark/gloomy.

“straight-forward”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Not an authentic Mongolian experience, but very UB. Good beer brewed on site, fairly good food, mostly German.

“It's all about the beer!”
Reviewed December 28, 2011

My colleagues and I didn't go to Brau Haus for the food. It's all about the beer when it comes to this establishment. Sure, they have a selection of sausages and other western food but it was decent at best and not worth the high price of the order.

The beer that you can get at Brau Haus though is worth every Tugrik (Mongolian currency.) They have local Mongolian brew along with the in-house specials. I ordered a meter (yes, a meter: small glasses arranged on a meter stick) of their dark house brew and was very happy with the quality and taste. Probably one of the best dark beer you can find in-country along with GEM draft.

The place itself is very spacious and there are many tables outside during the summer months for enjoyment under the sun.

“Good varied menu”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

Ate here a few times while in UB with a group of 13. I'm a vegetarian and got the greek salad which was quite good. A few others got the spaghetti and commented that it was some of the best they had ever had! Someone commented that the chicken and mushroom soup was really good. They have yummy strawberry ice cream (and other flavors) for dessert. Be aware that Friday after work hours the place gets packed with local young urban professionals. Cool vibe but it gets very smokey.

“Brewpub with German-style food”
Reviewed May 7, 2011

BrauHaus is the brewpub of Khaan Brau, and serves German style-beer and food. The restaurant is modern, in a gleaming mirrored building.

The beer is good, with the standard lager served in a filtered and unfiltered version, a wheat beer and a dark beer. I've had both German sausages and t-bone steak here. I'd say the sausages were better - the t-bone was served with a sauce billed as a red wine reduction, but it was more like a tomato sauce. This would be a good place to go with a group.
