We stayed for two nights enroute from Phonsavon Plain of Jars to Pakse. We paid US$27.50 a night for a top floor room which was very large. After staying in some dark and gloomy places both in Phonsavon and Pakse I remember the cleanliness and light of the Vayakorn with pleasure The reception staff were friendly and helpful and fixed us up with a cheap taxi to Buddha Park for half the cost that friends in another budget hotel had been quoted We intend to return to Laos and would certainly stay here again

We had a pleasant overnight stay at Vayakorn Guest House. Booked by email with no problems. Our room was attractively furnished and clean, with A/C and TV. Hot showers. There was free WIFI in the lobby. Service friendly but we had trouble booking an early bus to Luang Prabang (we felt the staff were having difficulty understanding us) so ended up doing this through another guest house in the area. There were lots of places to eat within walking distance. For $25US we felt it was a little overpriced relative to other places we have stayed in south east Asia but otherwise no complaints.

This guest house was wonderful. The room was spacious and teh bathroom was clean. The front desk staff were very polite and helpful, and while we did not ask them any questions or utilize any real services aside from checking in/out I am sure they would have been prompt and accommodating.

The air conditioning worked, but it was an uphill battle to keep the room cool because it was 100 degrees by 10 am everyday, but it kept the room bearable with a nice breeze. The location is perfect, it is two or three blocks from the riverside stalls and 4-5 blocks max from some very nice wats and the presidential palace.

We did a quick tour of Hanoi, Vientiane, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Ubud and Seminyak and it was the best accommodation room wise and value wise; followed closely by Hotel Kool in Siem Reap.

Though at the top end of our budget, Vayakorn Inn was a tremendous value (note we are writing about the new Inn behind the Guest House of the same name and management -- we're sure that place is great as well, but did not stay there). The rooms were very well appointed, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the breakfast, like everything else there, was excellent value for money. If you can swing the extra money, a stay here is well worth it.

I paid USD 25 for a double room. Though that's at the top end of my budget, it was completely worth it. Good location, fantastic staff. The room was very comfortable with lots of storage space, a desk, a seating area and a private bathroom with a hot shower. Free wifi throughout the hotel is definitely a bonus, though the signal in the room was sometimes very weak (I was on the second floor). There's also a nice common patio with some comfy chairs.

I did check out some other guesthouses in Vientiane but I found that the cheaper ones are definitely not so appealing. I do think the Vayakorn is good value.

I travel to Vientiane regularly and always stay with the guys at the Vayakorn. It is great value for money, nice rooms well decorated, clean and well appointed. It is also an excellent location being right in the middle of town. The staff are polite and helpful. For a night or longer the deals are pretty good here. But book in advance when you can as on some of my trips it has been fully booked and many a walk in was turned away! The only drawback is you sometimes get that very common SEAsia piping smell, but like I said - it is a pretty common thing in this part of the world. Does not stop me going back!

Paid US$20/night and only stayed there for 1 night. Breakfast is served at additional US$2.50 but we didn't try that so no comments.
Listed in Lonely Planet as author's choice, which might have added a few dollars on the price tag (it was USD5 cheaper when the LP was published...)

Staff spoke considerably good English. We booked in advance via email, and received very fast and efficient response.

Good location. 7-min walk to Mekong River and a short walk to major sights

Clean, spacious and comfortable room

More suitable for guests with backpacks as guest house has few levels with no elevator
