“Beautiful, traditional-style hotel and good location but average service”
Reviewed August 6, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is really lovely. The decor is traditional Lao-style with lots of carved wood, so the rooms are lovely. It's very close to the central part of the city and major tourist attractions. However, the staff are not friendly or particularly helpful - a really big let-down for Lao, where the people usually are a highlight!

Great location - central to just about everything.

Watch your bill - they tried to charge me for the mini-bar which I didn't use.

Laundry service is very good, but cheaper elsewhere

The room whilst clean to look at, STANK of old cigarette smoke, and when I got home my clothes all needed washing or airing to get it out.

The bathroom was a good size, but a bit damaged - missing tiles etc. Thoughtful little collection of things available for you to use - toothbrushes and paste, soap, shampoo/conditioner etc.

Lovely pool area. There is a gym too, but I didn't check that out.

Breakfast was OK. Avoid the cereal unless you see them opening a new packet, otherwise it's stale. Yoghurt is good, as it the bread.

Room Tip: Avoid room 209. Stale cigarette smoke smell, and was noisy at night

This well appointed hotel which is well located in Vientiane suited us as a family touring Laos. We stayed here for two nights and ventured around town quite easily. The rooms were a good size and well kept. There is a good size pool and a gym if you need one. The staff are very friendly, breakfast was filling.
There was a disturbance on our floor which our teenage girls felt uneasy, the staff quickly moved us to another floor which was great. Can't fault them.

Chanthapanya to me is imbued with what you want from a Laos hotel, not quite four star but trying hard to get there. The hotel is littered with charming Laotian art including the fabulous elephant head bedside lamps which are as disturbing as they are charming. Check out the elaborate lobby, psychedelic lights, enormous wood carvings and extravagant chandelier.

The staff are young - I don't think I've seen a member of staff over the age of 20 and they sleep in the lobby or sit around transfixed by the TV or huddling in groups to sing along to the latest pop song.

There is a tiny out door gym up on the second floor, catching the breezes and the coolness of the morning, open to the air and overlooking the pool. Room 201 is adjacent to both the pool and a little balcony overlooking the front of the hotel and is blessed with a colossal bed.

Breakfast is an interesting affair. Everything is ornate and silver and carved and beautiful but the place feels as though it is run by confused children. But not in a bad way. Give me that over aloof, sycophantic uniformed automotons any day. There's plenty of choice from the buffet, pastries, breads, ever changing selections of fresh fruits, hot food and eggs any way you like.

The cheapest rooms are completely adequate. The beds are big and comfortable and the sheets the quality fine cotton you look for in a big hotel. There is plenty of carved wood accents and polished wood floors and it all feels clean and well maintained and the reed diffusers in the bathrooms do a fair job of playing down the smell of drains. It is low key, comfortable and doesn't want for anything. Tea in the rooms, mini bars, wardrobe with safe, TV, effective and quiet airconditioning, laundry service (although "same day" is a bit of a stretch - don't depend on getting your clothes back in time to leave for the airport!)

The location couldn't be more convenient. It's right in the heart of Vientiane but still feels tucked away enough to allow a retreat from the tourist stretches.

My only complaint would be the wifi. It is weak to the point of being non-existent. I could just about Skype home by standing in the entrance to the bathroom and holding my phone above my head but the signal cut out so often I had to give up.

Traditional style hotel located quite centrally in Vientiane. Depsite my small room with a view of a brick wall I quite liked it. There is a very local feel and charm to this place. Staff are helpful and attentive. Breakfast not great for me but I've had a lot worse; I had enough (including fried eggs made to order) so thats the main thing. Room had nice recently refurbished bathroom, comfortable, tea/coffee making facilities and air con. There was an open air concert nearby which prevented sleep but that's not the fault of the hotel. Overall a nice place to stay and location in the centre of Vientiane is very good.

This is a beautiful hotel in the centre of town close to the Mekong and opposite the Lao national cultural hall. A lot of traditional wooden furniture, the rooms are nice with a great shower and excellent wifi. For breakfast you can have the typical lao choice of different kind of noodles, foe or pho, rice noodles, khao poon, kow soi all delicious. You can also have fruit, yoghurt, muesli of course or a spanish omelet! a big plus of this hotel is that is has a nice swimming pool which is highly appreciated in this heat.

This is a nice hotel very close and within walking distance of the main tourist area and Mekong river. It is on a quiet road which means that sleep is not disturbed by noise. Its has nice traditional decoration and the staff are very helpful. Breakfast is basic but OK (don't drink the coffee its horrible). Good wifi and nice and clean. I would stay there again as it good value.
