We stayed three couples the night of the 19th may in three rooms at one end of corridor on 6th floor. Rooms are nice but not all have central controls at bedside table. Restaurant on top floor is poorly decorated, strangely arranged and served meat is of poor quality.

They have on third floor at open air what they call night club. This a place were drinks are served and people sing (karaoke) and dance up to 03:00hr following an extremely loud music being ïmpossible for many guests in rooms to rest.

At 01:00hr I contacted reception and I was moved to other room at other end of corridor on 7th floor. This means my wife and I had to walk on pyjamas from our room to elevator, from elevator to other room were we could sleep, and return same way to my original room at 08:00hr.

OIther two couples were desperated up to 03:00hr a.m. whe music ceased. I have calculated that at least in 8 rooms per floor, so loud music make impossible any rest for guests.
No sense.

We were in Vientiane, Laos and were due to stay at the Laos Plaza but our agent messed up the reservations. Thus, we were sent to the Don Chan Palace. Located on the out skirts of town, this hotel was a clean, big, Western style hotel that somehow got a permit to build so many floors .... visually, it stuck out like a sore thumb. However, once inside, the lobby was spacious and lovely.

The bed room was large, and had a well appointed bathroom. The courteous front desk spoke English rather fluently. It was a "Western" style hotel. However, having been in Laos for a week, it was a welcomed change.

Their shuttle service to town was not terribly convenient but it was very cheap to catch a tuk tuk into the main town.

The breakfast was good by any standard.

We stayed one night at the Donchan Palace Hotel in Vientiane as a stopover on our way to Luang Prabang. It is the newest hotel in Vientiane and tallest building. It is on the river and claims five star status. The room and amenities were fine. However, the service and the food were not at that level, and it was eerily empty on Christmas eve. We went to the Chinese Restaurant at 6:30 and no one was in it and we couldn't communicate with the help about the menu. So we went up to the top floor which had a $15 set menu, only about five tables, a very forgettable meal and service. For one night it was OK. Still we would have preferred a location closer to the sites in town. However, they do run a shuttle service.
