Every place I go, I usually visit the museum because it's the place where I would probably know it all about the place and the people I visit. Laos musem lack the uniqueness and historical feeling. Everything is on display inside the long building ( a typical government official building ) you feel like you visit an Exhibition Hall and not a National Museum ! on top of it, some room and some wooden floor need rectification and refurbishing. It make you feel like nobody pay much attention to improve it...

I had read already something about Lao history before my trip. You dont need to know anything before you enter, by the end of it you know the basics and feel a little sorry and understading for the Lao people. Thats just my own opinion. Also many cool old atrifacts etc. Go check it out!

The guidebooks are very hard on this place, but I think it has been improved considerably since they were written. Several rooms upstairs are boringly devoted to photographs, mainly, constructing a kind of narrative of modern Lao history; but the exhibits elsewhere devoted to artefacts are very fine as are the artefacts themselves. You will see here the biggest brass drum you will ever have seen, for example-- perhaps the largest ever found? And you will find good displays on the textiles and other everyday artefacts of Lao minority peoples. These displays are now usually in English and Lao, and the English was done by a native speaker.

happened to pass by this by chance and ended up going in. was a good experience and well worth going in. learnt some thing about the laos history (even tho its very biased) and was nice way to pass a couple of hours before dinner. no pictures is a bit rubbish but no complaints apart from that
