i can say it's very different from the other temple . it's nice if they have a full detail about the temple . while looking at it you can see restaurants & USA Embassy .

There may be a story behind the significance of the Black Stupa but it is not evident at the monument. Perhaps a local guide would be more enlightening.
It takes only a minute or two to walk around the Black Stupa which is becoming covered by grass and weeds.

The stupa is located at the centre of a roundabout and nothing much to see around. Take a photo and continue walking.

As I say, and other reviews say, go there, take a couple of pictures and that's about it. Don't go out of your way to find it but if you pass it, photo opportunity

Take the picture and carry on, it's just a pile of bricks.
BUT, since you're right there, if you're getting low on reading matter, there is a pretty good used bookshop called Kosila Book Shop 20 metres down one road towards the river from it. Chanthakoumman Road. The guy who runs it speaks English, and is really kind and helpful.
It has about 40% English, 40% German and 20% French books.

He even shut the shop for 15 minutes and ran me back to my Hotel in his private car, as I had trouble getting the TukTuk guys to know my hotel - even with a card in Lao and English. How good is THAT :)
