Vientiane is worth a visit - but not a long one. It is a small capital city with a decidedly provincial feel. Very relaxing. This hotel is as central as it gets and is perfectly comfortable in a charming old fashioned way. We had a large suite which was well appointed and furnished. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful, even if their English is limited. You walk all round Vientiane from the hotel and there are perfectly acceptable bars and restaurants nearby. The breakfast is excellent. A good find all round.

Room Tip: The suites are enormous - basically two normal bedrooms plus a wonderful bathroom on a high floor.

Massive room. Great breakfast. set in an opulence of a bygone era.

Cant fault this hotel and I can see why its number 1.

Boutique feel and nice staff.

Our room was overlooking the street and the hotel is well positioned in the city with the waterside park and night market effectively at the end of the street.
Its very close to Joma cafe and lots of cafes for the international traveller

This is the sort of hotel they used to do in the old days and that you see in old movies except that it is only a few years old. So you have old charm and modern comforts. The room we had was massive with period fourniture and clean. It had a small balcony and an aircon. (Plus kettle, safe etc). The staff was friendly. Breakfast was nice. Moreover the location is good and everything is in walking distance.
One evening we had dinner in their restaurant. The food was very nice (we had curry and fried rice) and not too expensive.
So to sum up a great place to stay

The hotel is well appointed, with large, clean rooms. The service cannot be faulted, with all the staff willing to help you out with whatever you need. The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is good with a good choice of hot and cold food. The only thing that stops this being 5 stars is that there's no gym, fitness centre or pool, which would be good in the humidity of the city.

It's only a short walk from the hotel to a small park area, which has a market on each night. From there you are close to the Mekong river and a nice walk in either direction. There are plenty of good restaurants around and the hotel offers transport to and from the airport. I would go back here if I am back in Vientiane.

I stayed at the Dhavara Hotel for one night and liked it so much that I extended it for another evening. The rooms are very spacious, the bed is big and wonderful to sleep in, the staff are great and the breakfast was also really nice. There is not a single thing that I can fault them on and would recommend this hotel to anyone
