Kungs
Found this place through a friend who'd been to Vientiane a number of times, otherwise I don't think I'd have ever uncovered this little gem which is run by the most delightful and gorgeous Maly. It's well away from the tourist hubbub and down a little narrow alleyway. But its cheap, with great food and good coffee and a quirky atmosphere. It's nothing like the touristy places in town. Make sure you have the sticky rice pancakes with mango or bananas. And if you get the chance to have a good chat to maly, who speaks good English then all the better because she's just beautiful. We spent a couple of hours in the quiet time having a really good yak and well there's not much else to do in Vientiane anyway so kungs cafe made the visit more worthwhile.

I love that Kung's is down a long alley (it is easy to miss!) that looks like the Vientiane of years ago. Great food also...

They said it was a bit tricky to find this cafe . But after reading most of the reviews, which rave about its delicious and affordable food, we were convinced and gritty to find this place. I wrote down the directions in English (I copied it from one of the reviews. Hehehe! =D) and asked one of the crew members in JoMa Cafe to translate it and write it in Lao for me. Viola! We showed it to the tuktuk driver and in 5 minutes we were there! =) I posted a photo of the directions on how to get here in Lao and a photo of the alley so you won't have a hard time looking for this wonderful place. :)
The food and coffee were absolutely marvelous! I personally loved the coconut milk Lao coffee! Marie was a gracious host. She even told us that the Philippine Ambassador for Laos eats breakfast and lunch here as well! =) We will be back, Laos...See you soon, Marie! =)

This little restaurant is hard to find but is well worth it! Serving a range of Lao and Thai style dishes, the portion sizes are good along with excellent service and friendly staff. We tried the sticky rice and mango pancake which did not disappoint! The cafe is situated in a cool area outside surrounded by lovely flowers. This cafe is popular with foreigners and gets quite busy during lunch time. Seating is limited so get in quick!
