Different but you need to understand the history. Probably worth the drive up a very bumpy dirt road.

at one time this might have been a site of some significance..it has been turned into a TOUT RIP OFF after you travel by one of the worst roads in laos....just in vientiane alone you have your offerings of those places with real significane...DO NOT GO

This is a bizarre folly - a field of buddahs all sculpted by one man. Its a fascinating collection but is in a sad state of disrepair and if something is not done to repair and restore the sculptures very soon it may be too late. See them while you can. Its about 25k outside Vientiane and if you can afford it, get a car to take you, as the road is really bad once you go past the Friendship Bridge and it would be a long and very uncomfortable trip in a tuk tuk.

Make sure you leave at least 2 hours before sundown to see the park as it closes at dusk. The road to the park from Vientiane is not sealed for the last 10 kms or so, and very bumpy, so for this reason you can't get a bus, the tuk-tuk is the best option. It's a 25km trip and takes about an hour at least each way. Anybody interested in art, sculpture or mysticism would definitely enjoy the Buddha Park. The history of the park is also very interesting, you can read about that on Wikipedia. I also found the road trip there very interesting, seeing the local people, shops, houses, traffic, and Friendship Bridge on the way. The giant pumpkin sculpture is awesome though sometimes a little daunting. There is no wheelchair access in the pumpkin. Inside is a dark maze, you have to squeeze through small holes and ladders and you navigate through heaven and hell, emerging at the top of the pumpkin you get a great view of the whole park, it has no safety fence so be careful.

This place is great! The journey out there is interesting too, the last couple of kilometres are on probably the most bumpy road I have ever been on.

The park itself is wonderful. Full of various stone buddhas in all shapes and sizes, plus a neat sculpture you can go inside and climb up - its a bit of an effort but worth it for the view from the top.
