“Far away Buddha park only if you have the time”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

The Buddha park is a long and bumpy drive away from the city, but when you get there the park is interesting. So many different Buddha statues and other more or less beautiful sculptures.
Interesting to see but it takes some time

“Very Small Park - hardly worth the ride”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

We caught the local bus to Buddha Park from the night market bus station, which is a ten minute walk from the middle of town. The price was very cheap, but we got overcharged by an unscrupulous bus driver. After a 30 minute ride we arrived at the Friendship Bridge, where we were told the bus stopped and headed back to Ventiane. We had to find our own way to Buddha Park from there and the moto driver charged us more than the cost of the bus.

The road to Buddha Park was about 5km long and very, very, very bumpy. We took about 25 minutes to travel the distance. You could walk it, but thểre are no footpaths and once you are there you dont have a ride back. It would be an unpleasant walk. We asked our driver to wait and he said he would charge us the same amount for the return journey. No problems with that.

Buddha Park itself was only the size of one and a half football fields. The statues and carvings were nice to look at, but it didnt take long to see everything in the park. We stayed about an hour, but had probably sêen everything in about 30 minutes.

Ìf you go, make sure you go inside the "heaven and earth" statue and climb to the top.

On the way back to Friendship Bridge the driver picked up locals to supplement the price we had already paid. The moto was overflowing by the time we got back and the trip back was even worse than the trip out.

It was a nice peaceful place to visit for a short time, but it wasnt worth the trip. A total round trip time òf about 3 hours if you are in a hurry.

“Enjoy it for what it is - one Monk's vision/folly”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We all loved our visit here. It's quirky and unusual. If you buy the inexpensive little guide book you can gain a better understanding of the monks integration of Hinduism with Buddhism, some of the sculptures, and what they represent. On the banks of the river and set in a park it's a pleasant place to spend an hour or two if you have the time and the inclination. Climb up the 'pumpkin'; it's worth it for the view over the park from the top. Who needs to see yet another temple with the same roof lines anyway?

“The Lawns Need mowing...”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

The place looks like it would have been fantastic when it was first opened (100's of years ago), but it looks like it needs a good clean-up. If this place is supposed to be a tourist attraction, it will need a lot of work, the grass isn't even mowed very regularly and wild weeds and shrubs growing everywhere. I think they need to employ a team of care-takers and gardeners. I didn't even bother with a photo. Go somewhere else in your free time - this place isn't worth the effort of getting there.

I'm Buddhist and have been to many religious places. When I first saw this place, I said to myself, "What a mess!". After visiting many temples in Laos which are absolutely remarkable, Buddha park is not worth visiting.
