I think no traveler miss to visit Pha That Luang (พระธาตุหลวง) when come to Vientiane. The Stupa is known as the landmark and symbol of Laos nation. For Laos’s people, all every single man dream to come here and worship the Golden Sacred Stupa once in the lifetime. This is to show that they have firmly believed in Buddhism. Phra That Luang is so called Phra LokaChulamanee (พระโลกาจุฬามณี) as real full name.
The legend says Buddhist missionaries from India came to this land by the order of King Asoka The Great after Lord Buddha nirvana 200 years. They put the holy relic of Lord Buddha (breast bone) to the stupa.
After ruined and rebuilt many time, at present, the stupa shape is looked like the golden giant pyramid. In the middle of 4 sides, there are sacrifice balcony for people to pay their respect to the stupa. Entrance fee is 5,000 Kips. For me, this is another best place in Vientiane for taking photos.
