This is quite a stunning building as it is golden and quite majestic.
Some nice photo opportunities -it glints in the sun. Ther is a wall with holes shaped like clubs (as in the suite of cards) and you can get some interesting photos pointing you camera through them

Short tuk tuk ride from the riverside not really worth it either. It's in need of a good makeover. I've seen far better temples.
The golden pictures you see on postcards are touched up versions.

Fun cycling out there but even though this was billed as the most important national monument, it was very disappointing

Pha That Luang is the National Buddhist shrine of Laos. Parts of it may be 2000 years old. It was heavily damaged by the Thai Army in 1826, and rebuilt by the French in the early 20th century.
Pha That Luang is where important Lao Buddhist festivals are held every year, including the That Luang Festival held in mid November. This Festival is both a big religious festival, and a cultural and economic products expo, and is very photogenic.

I was surprised how few people were visiting here on a Saturday. It's like the "Anti-Bangkok" in that there were so few people, in a beautiful area, super for photos, and I even had a blue sky. Would've like to visit at sunset, but couldn't make it.
