“If you are here you see more”

In the same park, there are many things to see like the lying budha and more. You are going to need about 2 hours to see all these buildings (Within walking distance), enjoy the ride (don't forget to bring your embralla and water)

“Stunning place”
Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

A definite must see. The size and scale of the stupa can only be appreciated by walking around it although you cannot get to close due to the highly sacred nature of the monument. The reclining Buddha next to but outside the stupa enclosure is also worth a look.

“Go early for a relaxing morning”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Loved the quiet grounds and beauty of the shrines. We rented bikes in the city center and biked here about 9 am and were about the only tourists. With our bikes we could go right up to the temple and nearby shrines, and as a bonus fly by the souvenir and food stands without anyone asking us to buy something. Peaceful place, great photo-ops!

“Stunning, worth reading the history first”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

You need to read up to realise how important this wonderful monument is to the Lao people. The gardens around it are worth a visit, too, as are the many temples and stupas.

“The Main Tourist Spot”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

It is an unusual stye for Stupas and given its history you know why. The gold colors are great during sunrise or sunset and of course the heat relief is also welcome at those times.

Around the complex are other temples for you to explore at your leisure. They are functioning temples. Be respectful. The Great Stupa is walled. There is a fee of 5K Kip entrance. Small souvenirs can be purchased at this shop. Inside the walled Stupa there is nothing else to see. The walls can sometimes create a problem for photo angles. The Stupa itself is very enjoyable to see. There are benches in shaded areas for you to rest from the sun. Sometimes if you are lucky you can see small weddings or ceremonies inside the complex.

Outside of the walled area are many vendors selling souvenirs and drinks. The vendors are pretty docile and not aggressive. It makes the area enjoyable.

Across from the main entrance of the Stupa is a main street of many places to eat and shop. This would be a good place to take a lunch break or afternoon tea.
