“Must visit in Vietiane! ”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

I been to the great Patuxai and enjoyed every visit. You have to go in to the gate and up the the stairs to see inside. There are nice shops you can buy souvenirs. Once on the top of the gates there is a great view of Vientiane. I lived in Vietiane for 9 years and still love going to Patuxai.

Thank Sean W

“Patuxay , triumphal arches of Laos”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

Patuxay , triumphal arches of Laos
Patuxay at the end of Lan Xang Avenue ( Lang Xan ) or Thanon Luang avenue northeast of Vientiane is a symbol of the victory over Laos .
Most tourists coming to the capital of Laos country are taking the time to visit Patuxay , which are considered a symbol of this city . Patuxay ( or Patuxai ) are country people such as tide and triumphal arches of the city. Buildings built to honor the soldiers in the war against the Lao People 's French .

Patuxay located between the main roads of the most beautiful streets of the capital , where even if you go from any direction may also recognize it from afar . Intersection between streets , Patuxay welcome the dawn of a new day and where watching the sunset on a clear night when .

Patuxay has many other names like vertical runway , cement beast of the East or the Champs Elysée . The project was built from 1962 to 1968. Too many unfinished because of lack of funding and other reasons , so far Patuxay is not really complete . With people of Laos , the reason the work was not continued because it can build a history of poor parts of the country . Also works as a good message to the future generations to know the past to strive hard to build the country in the future .

Patuxay somewhat similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris but bore a cultural identity of Laos . It is decorated idols Kinari - half woman and half bird , is the reliefs described Rama and the epic style tower of Laos .

“Go to see the views”
Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

The city is quite low rise so the view isn't that spectacular but nice to get a view of the city and get 360 degree view from top. Nice to cycle down the road and then climb the monument.

“Don't go there on purpose”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

If you include it in a global bike city tour then it's Ok, otherwise Patuxai doesn't really worth stopping here.
View from the top is quite disappointing so better keep your energy for other visits

“Asian Arc de Triomphe!”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

When we heard the story behind this arch, we just had to go & see it! The cement was donated by the American government in the 60's in order to build an airport but the Laotians decided to build a victory arch instead!! It is an impressive sight as one walks up the long avenue leading to it & it is just as impressive close up with beautiful ceilings inside the arch & lovely gardens around it. We were too hot & tired to climb the 7 stories to the top but have heard that it is well worth it on a clear day.
