Owner description: The "Victory Gate" of the city was built in 1962 out of U.S.-purchased cement that was intended for a new airport.

Fun structure to check out, certainly more interesting than France's replica. Nestled in a nice parkland which is set for a large overhaul in the next few years extending the parks where ministry buildings currently are, the Patuxai is great to see at night time with the lights illuminating it.

it is a wonderful feeling to cycle around Vientiene and admire the many sights within a 10 km radius of Vientiene. Patuxai is located along Thanom Lang Xang , a 6 lane wide dual road leading to the magnificent Patuxai. It looks very similar to Paris's Arc de Triomphe, with its towering stone structure in the middle of the highway . A photo shoot along the Lang Xang with the Patuxai as a background makes a great picture. One can pay a small fee to reach the top for a view of Vientiene.

The bottom two thirds of the arch don't look too impressive up close, and as a matter of fact there's even a sign describing itself as "a concrete monstrosity". However, the top third looks much more impressive from ground level, and be sure to check out the ceiling inside the arch. There's a small fee to climb the arch, but the views from the top encompass a lot of Vientiane. Plus, from the top you can truly get a feel for how the French colonized and developed the city by realizing how much the view of Lane Xang Avenue is reminiscent of the view of the Champs-Élysées!

We walked from the Presidential palace to this monument. The morning market was on the way so we stopped off for an ice-cream. The monument is easy to climb and the view of the gardens is lovely.
