Owner description: The "Victory Gate" of the city was built in 1962 out of U.S.-purchased cement that was intended for a new airport.

The Patuxai (gate of Victory) reminds me of the Arc of Triumph in Paris. Nice 360 view from the top. Good to visit at the end of the day for the change of light.

Obvious French influence at this site, but impressive and worth the short walk to get there. You have to pay to go upstairs for the views. Not sure if they are worth it, I didn't pay.

Worth a peak especially when you know it was built using cement donated by the Americans to build a new airstrip. Just think if they had built the airstrip I am sure the Americans would have used it during the Vietnam War for their own devices.

The view from the top is well worth the climb as you get a real feel for the layout of Vientiane. It is an interesting combination of French, Indian and Lao architectures.

The architecture is unique. Interesting history to it too! For best photography, schedule your visit to this place in the morning. Besides, it can be glaringly hot and humid in the afternoon.
