I have lived in Vientiane as an ex-pat for 18 months now and have visited most restaurants in Lao.
For Lao food suited to Western taste this place is perfect. They do all the local favourites but don't put the chilly in, or fermented fish paste, that the locals love. This is because most Western people don't love it.
After 18 months I prefer more genuine Lao food, made as locals would eat it, so I go to Lao street cafes where locals eat. You will find very few locals eating here. It's a place where Westerners eat.
If you are on holiday, looking for Lao food, but don't want it too spicy etc then I high recommend this place.
If you are looking for a more genuine experience, with recipes made as the locals eat, then try a local street cafe. You'll know you're in one because there will be no Westerners in it!!
