This is a very unassuming little restaurant on Rue Hengboun. It is open fronted with a clean, minimalist look, just a handful of bare tables. The food is traditional Lao, very fresh, quickly prepared and full of flavour. After 3 or 4 visits we have found the food to be consistently good. For vegetarians there is some choice, tofu larb, of course, deep fried tofu, rice paper rolls, but pay attention to the descriptions, harmless dishes like papaya salad contain fish sauce and the River Weed is served with a “jeow” that contains buffalo skin although they will swap this out for mushroom jeow if you ask. They seem to understand the concept of vegetarian so it’s worth asking if they can make any of the dishes vegetarian by removing the fish sauce. Similarly, the menu clearly labels the spiciness of each of the dishes so you can pick how spicy (or not) you want your food. For meat eaters there are a variety of dishes all with the option of chicken, beef or pork as well as tofu. Beer lao is on offer as well as a few other soft drinks and friends have successful brought along their own wine to drink with their meal.

We seemed to get there at the right time, because several groups of people got turned away for no seating (they just didn't want to wait). But the food was excellent and would have been worth the wait for them!

Great Laos cuisine, clean and nice atmosphere in a perfect spot downtown.

Great variety of well prepared Lao dishes. Especially recommended for anyone who wants to be adventurous, but doesn't quite fancy taking the plunge with street food. Get stuck in!
