Mixay Paradise
Ranked #10 of 202 Vientiane B&B and Inns

We viewed a lot of guesthouses' rooms whilst trying to find accommodation in Vientiane and this was the nicest by far.

Rooms are bright, clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was of a good size and the bed was relatively comfortable. I found it strange that WiFi was supposedly only available between 9am and I think 11:30pm, however my Internet seemed to work at all hours during our two night stay. Not complaining!

The staff were very friendly, but there seemed to be so many of them? I found it strange coming downstairs to get a bottle of water one night to find them all sleeping in the lobby! I was then served by about three of them for one bottle of water...

There was a fairly good choice at breakfast, but it was all just ok. We used the laundry service, which was cheap and efficient. Also loved that there was free orange juice available on tap to all guests throughout the day!

I have to agree with certain other reviews though... There are far too many rules and regulations pinned up all over the place that just aren't necessary! Most of which are common sense. No need to have them plastered everywhere!

All in all though, a very pleasant stay in a well-located area of the city.

This hotel although clean and with friendly staff was very disappointing. The hotel had a looooong list of rules of do's and dont's and a list of fines you would get, there was a 10.30pm curfew so you could not go out of an evening (not that there is much to do in Vientiane anyway). Many of the rules were fairly self explanatory and to have them all written on a list everywhere gave a very negative, unrelaxed atmosphere. If you do stay opt for an air con room as it got extremely hot and the fan did not do anything to assist.

Room Tip: Definitely recommend a/c over fan

Wandered in looking for a bed for a night and ended up staying a week! Mixay wasn't my cheapest accommodation of all of SE Asia but by Laos standards, it's reasonably priced.

Stayed in a single with a fan and shared bathroom for just over $10/night. My room was great, with a window. The guesthouse is quiet and well lit at night. The entire guesthouse is spotless. They literally have a staff that spends the day cleaning and re-cleaning the floors/bathrooms, daily maid service, good food at their restaurant for cheap....and the friendliest staff ever.

Every person at the front desk knew my name before I ever checked into my room.

I miss this place!!

We found this guesthouse in the central tourist area in Vientiane, not far from the Mekong. Given the poor standard of accomodation in Vientiane, this was the best of a bad bunch. Our room had two large windows and a view of a temple and the bathroom was newly renovated. We paid 105,000 Kip for one night in a room with aircon, no breakfast. One bad thing about the hotel is the number of signs ALL OVER THE HOTEL foribidding commercial sex workers, guests, cooking, ironing in rooms etc. These signs obviously were there for a reason but I think there may be more subtle ways of informing customers of the rules of the hotel. Having huge signs underlined in bold outlining the range of fines for breaking the rules doesn't create a pleasant atmosphere.

This place was good, but not great. Clean, decent breakfast, fair value. I found the staff to be friendly and responsive, probably above average in that respect. We looked at several other places and found this one to be the best choice in Vientiane.

I stayed here a few days with friends. First night we slept in the guesthouse next door. The room had very bad smell. Then we moved to this hotel. It was much cleaner and AC worked better. The price was 130000kip, including breakfast. We slept well. Everything was perfect except wifi was too slow. But this is Laos. We can't expect everything to be perfect. I can recommend this hotel.

We originally planned to stay at iHouse up the road from Mixay but we soon realised that Mixay is much more reasonably priced with an efficient team running the place so we relocated.

We had a double room with ensuite which had big windows with views of the streets below (with mosquito covers). The room wasn't too big but was adequate and the bathroom was fairly spacious (no need to shower directly over the toilet!).

The best thing about Mixay was how professionally run it was. There were a large team of staff who knew exactly what they were doing and they were friendly too. We arranged our airport transfer through them for a good price and our laundry (10,000 kip/kg). Our laundry came back the freshest than anywhere else in South East Asia.

We decided to pay an extra US$1 each to have breakfast included - and I'm glad we did! Breakfast included tea, coffee, orange juice, toast (with butter/jam), cake, an Asian dish which would change daily (usually something with rice) and eggs of your choice (fried, scrambled, omelette). Now you can't complain at that for a dollar!

They also had a "coffee and cake" afternoon while we were there where each guest received a free drink and free cake of their choice. The cake was delicious and a nice touch from the guesthouse.
