“Hotel with Laotian Antique decor”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Lovely hotel situating right by the Mekong river on the busy coastal road Fa Gnum. The interior of hotel is full of Laotian antiques from the lobby to the nice decorated rooms.
I always prefer 4th floor rooms looking to the Mekong to enjoy the great sunset.
Double bed is good, bath room average, breakfast ordinary but you can order omelet or fried eggs free.- Staff at the reception was always very friendly and helpful.
If you like hotel which diverges from standard western style and has its own ambiance, this is a good choise.

Inter City is a good hotel to stay in Vientiane. My second visit - a one night stopover, so was convenient to airport. Very centrally located, small lift, rooms are ok although bathroom was basic. Breakfast is ordinary but plenty of eating places within a stone's throw. There are lots of eating stalls set up in the evening to provide cheap and good food along the river bank. The Bor Pen Yang bar is next door, up a few flights of stairs and is a great place to have a beer while watching the sunset over the Mekong River.

Lovely staff at reception, 4th floor room with river view. Breakfast nice. Decor & design of hotel brilliant though(solid thick silk curtains!) Has a safe in the room. Worth one night's stay only.
BUT: loud music from bar till 2400 each night & heavy trucks on road below all day long, hopeless wifi, old, grey towels that smelt odd, and vaguely clean bedding. Very hard mattress. Grouting and bath surface chipped = not clean and an utterly hopeless shower that only misted you with water. Seems like your experience will be a bit of a lottery from other reviews!

Room Tip: Avoid 4th floor riverfront. Totally erratic wifi and road/bar noise will disturb most travellors.

Yes, the Inter City Boutique Hotel is across from the Mekong and night market, but truth be told, the Vientiane city center is so compact, everything is easily walkable (I am no athlete either). There are tons of guest houses for one third to one half less in price. I usually stay at places in the fifteen to twenty dollar range and all usually have: air, on demand hot water, TV with a few Intl. stations, free wifi etc. there is no reason to pay thirty dollars for these features. My room on the 4th floor was not well cleaned/prepared, a bit tired, the elevator was not working, and they told me they "don't usually check in people early, but they would do it "special" for me...and there was a minor "miscalculation" when giving me change back upon check out for a coke that I used from the mini bar. Upon correction, I was begrudgingly given the rest of the change. On the plus side: Nice lobby and beautiful interior hallways. Now, if only the rooms had the same attention paid to them as the hallways...My advice: Stay somewhere else and use the extra 10-15 dollars on a great meal or other splurge!

Room Tip: Travel tip: if going on to Luang Prabang, and taking the bus, skip the regular "vip" bus...

Nice large room with firm but comfortable king size bed and soft pillows. Obviously had some recent renovations and the bathroom was half upgraded. Still had to shower in the bathtub but all in all a great place to stay for the price. Hardwood floors, clean bedding and a balcony overlooking the river and markets that set up right across the road at night. Couldn't ask for a better location I think. We really enjoyed our stay here and didn't find it to be noisy at all considering it was in the middle of all the action on the river. A good clean secure place to stay for an OK price.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the river and a balcony.

Completely overpriced for what you get. Unless you want a dingy room with no windows for $35/ night, better upgrade to a nicer room. Once we upgraded I had no complaints about the room- although on a backpacker budget $55US is not friendly. Staff was very nice and gracious- although same as other reviews, no help with baggage- not that I needed it, I am fully capable of carrying my luggage myself. The breakfast is an absolute disgrace as is the restaurant, which boasts fine dining- yeah right. Entire hotel is outdated and crumbling- lobby smells like smoke, crap, and 1975 musty. Walk to the left of the hotel and down the busy alley and there are a bunch of great new budget options that are clean, comfy and fresh.

The hotel is in a good position, just facing the Mekong river. A little old and aging but the room is comfortable and the bed is large and good. Nice view on the river, but you need to ask for an external room. Breakfast acceptable. Correct value for money.
Internet working sometimes, frequently down. Elevator also. Staff quite careless, nobody helping customers even with elevator not working. Payment upon check-in.

Room Tip: Ask for external room, facing the river
