“Overpriced and average - better options close by”
Reviewed February 26, 2012

Other reviewers (on another site) have this down:
- overpriced
- clean rooms
- no hot shower
- wifi doesn't work well unless you're in lobby
- indifferent desk staff
- great location

None were a dealbreaker for me except the lack of wifi so I moved out after 1 night. Loads of other options nearby, at better prices and with a nicer setup. I would stay again, if I had to, the rooms are clean and good.

Room Tip: Umm choose another hotel...

My tuk tuk driver didn't know where this hotel was, but given the sign outside saying 'Formerly Intha Hotel' I suspect the name change wasn't too long ago.

It was a pretty average hotel, staff were helpful and the reception area quite pleasant, but the room wasn't the cleanest I've ever stayed in. Some seriously dubious-looking stains on the bathroom wall/ceiling! Air con wasn't the greatest. Free wifi was a positive. A communal iron and board on the landing was a first for me!

Location was good, just a short walk to the riverfront and surrounded by bars, cafes and restaurants. I enquired about the bus to Vang Vieng and was quoted a price well above that of the travel shop just down the road.

Its not the best, but its fairly well-priced and in a good location. Fine for a couple of nights but wouldn't re-visit.

We decided to save a few kip and moved to this hotel while our Thai visa was being processed. The room was fine, old wooden furniture and bedding clean and reasonably comfortable. Indoor/outdoor carpet on the floor. Free wifi that is reasonable.
The staff are friendly and helpful, though one thing they need to do is to be more careful to tick their book when money is paid to them. We recommend that you keep all receipts and make sure that you are given one. Twice we had to produce them to avoid being asked to pay again!!
Breakfasts are a bit on the small side, after coming from hotels in Thailand for the same price. They consist of one egg, two piece of toast with jam and no butter. Choice of small piece of bacon or sausage.

The only other problem we had is when we asked them to book train tickets for the overnight train to Bangkok. I'm not sure about the whole situation, I would like to think it was a genuine mistake, but some factors seemed to say otherwise.
We paid for 1st class and on arrival at Thannalang received tickets saying 2nd class - the price difference is about half.
When we questioned the agent about this he waved his hand and said don't worry it's alright. But you know the gut feeling you get when things are not right, so we pressed him some more and he went into the ticket office and spent an extrordinary amount of time saying that he was contacting the hotel to find out what had happened. Then after I knocked on the door he came out sometime later and admitted a mistake had been made and it was being sorted. After another wait we were offered a refund to travel 2nd class as all the 1st class cabins were booked. We decided no, that the hotel should make good for the error and we would travel the next night when there was a cabin available. There was another guy in the same situation and he accepted the refund, in fact less than some that he was owed. Which swings my belief toward this being a scam.
Anyway we negotiated with the hotel for a half price room (they offered us 100,000 kip, we said that we thought 80,000 would be fair) and travelled the next night, this time it was all good. Luckily the hotel in BKK shifted our night forward so we didn't lose out there.
Unless you check your ticket at Thannalang (make sure you do!!) you wouldn't know there was a problem until you had boarded the train at Nong Khai and by then it would be too late after getting stamped out of Laos.
I'm not sure about the alternative, it may be to get yourself to Nong Khai and buy the ticket from there, even if it means staying a night in Nong Khai.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window, the non-window room we saw was musty
