“Bungalows in tranquil and quiet setting. Very nice”
Reviewed January 17, 2012

We stayed here on returning to Vientiane ( on the recommendation of the Hotel Khamsvonga - they were fully booked ). Quiet street. Bungalows in garden setting with breakfast served on private balcony. Rooms are nicely set out and tastefully decorated. Great location - close to Wat Inpeng and good selection of restaurants on and off the waterfront area. Pleasant and helpful staff. Transfers to airport arranged - take a tuk tuk as it is not far and more fun.

Pros
- Near Vientiane's Chinatown with a lot of relatively cheap Asian street food and restaurant food (this is quite unlike the touristy areas nearer the town centre, where all you can find are expensive bakeries and western food!)
- Located down a quiet alley
- Close proximity to the Mekong, but the riverbank has already been smothered in concrete anyway.
- Gardens were nice
- Bungalows are rustic and lovely
- Room was well equipped with amenities such as minibar, television, power sockets and hot water; and all worked as they should have.
- Room was clean
- Breakfast on the balcony was great
- Although we arrived early in the morning (before the usual check-in time), staff were happy to give us one of our two rooms first.

Neutral
- Breakfast simple but adequate
- A lot of mosquitoes but that's to be expected for a cottage in a garden. There is a mosquito net provided.
- Rooms are not quite soundproof as they're made of wood, and you can even hear people walking around in their rooms. Each cottage has only 2 rooms and we took both rooms in the same cottage so that wasn't a problem. Being in a quiet alley, there's next to no noise from outside, only from your neighbouring room.

Cons
- Some distance away from main attractions in the city
- Staff had some difficulty understanding more difficult requests in English

Considering we only paid US$30 per room, it is still good value.

After the horrors of KL, Auberge Sala Inpeng was a welcome respite. We loved the bungalows so reminiscent of Bali & a rare find as hotels in Vientiane mainly seem to be multi-storey facing roads.

We stayed in both the basic & more expensive rooms (happily, they were able to accommodate us for an extra night while waiting for my luggage to arrive on Air Asia from KL - not lost, just offloaded along with the bags of numerous others on that flight).

Everything worked! The bungalows are well-maintained, the staff are most helpful, the gardens (again reminiscent of Bali) are lovely. The location is convenient.

Breakfast is basic but adequate. Lovely eating it on our verandah.

Unfortunately, couldn't get a room there for our last night in Vientiane a week layer & stayed at one of the multi-level places where things didn't work.

Stayed here for a night during a recent trip to Southeast Asia. This was definitely one of the nicer places I visited.

My room (#5) was quite large and inviting. It was very clean, had wifi, enough power outlets. It was easy to feel right at home and relax. The grounds are pretty and well kept, and I enjoyed the breakfast on the front porch, even if it was maybe a bit less food than I could have liked.

It is in a good location, but not quite the most central one in Vientiane. But it is close enough to one of the main roads to have plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance. To some of the attractions you will end up taking a tuk tuk.

We decided to stop here after seeing a snapshot through a random website we came across on google. Fed up with hotels that once inside you could be anywhere in the world we thought we'd try this more rustic option.

We enjoyed it from the moment we got there to the moment we left. And thought that breakfast on the veranda of your room each morning was a really nice touch.

The other really good thing is the location, if you draw a circle around the main sights of the city this is a very central point making it easy to get anywhere as well as nice to call in to rest your feet.

As they said in the LP, this is a place you stay for the atmosphere, not the amenities.

We had 2 nights in the superior doubles, and the rooms were definately OK, but the real seller was the environment.
Breakfast or reading on your terras in the green environment, you don't feel you're in a hotelroom but out somewhere in Laos.
It is centrally located so everything is doable by foot or by bike.

Only thing to watch out for is to pay in cash (no credit cards accepted), and to do it in dollars because their exchange rate is terrible (8750 kip/dollar vs 8000, almost 10% more!). This is easily circumvented by exchanging your kips anywhere in town at a westen union (ask for 20 and 50 $ bills, sometimes old 100$ bills are refused).

We stayed for one night. Coming from busy Saigon, Vientiane really felt like a sleepy village. You're not likely to find an Asian 'city vibe' there nor the charm of Luang Prabang. But Sala Inpeng could be the reason in itself to spend one night in Lao capital. Wooden cabins in a serene garden + very friendly staff made our transition into Lao slow motion very smooth and pleasant. Another plus was the French breakfast (croissant) served on the balcony. The owner Mr Sayaxit was responsive to emails and helpful even before we arrived (advice on flood situation in Laos). Concluding, we were not impressed with the town, but the stay in Sala Inpeng compensated for it. Recommended.
