20 minuite walk to the river, nice breakfast, clean rooms,a good choice, pity there is no swimming pool, vientiane gets extremely hot and it would have been great to come back for a swim, the city itself is quite quiet and nitelife options are concentrated by the river and not by this hotel

We were pleasantly surprised to find we had been upgraded from an Executive B to Executive A room which was huge, with a large desk area at one end, lounge suite at the other and windows on 3 sides. Because the room was so large it took a while to cool. The a/c was assisted by 2 ceiling fans but only one was working. Wifi (free) was slow, especially at the desk end of room, TV was old but worked well with a good variety of channels and it was a real bonus to have the lounge area to sit and watch or read or use the wifi. Bed was typically hard and bathroom dated (shower over bath). Our room was on the third (top) floor, there is no lift and only a petite young woman on reception to assist with our cases. It took us approx 15-20 mins to walk into the riverside tourist area or there are plenty of tuktuks. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and served promptly. Staff were pleasant. Rooms were clean and quiet. Building in many ways is luxurious but tired and lacking attention to detail. Overall, excellent value for the price.

My girlfriend and I spent 2 nights in Aroon Residence in early April, 2013.

We had a Standard Double room which consisted of a comfortable bed (albeit 2 twins pushed together and no bedside tables), dressing table with chair, wardrobe (no safe), aircon, tv, fridge and an ensuite with separate shower cubicle. The room was comfortable and reasonably large.

The location of the hotel is ok, not far from the Patuxai (Vientiane's Arc De Triomohe lookalike) and about 1 km from the COPE centre which is a must in Vientiane in my opinion. We had lunch at KFE on the main road (Lane Xang) both days which was about the only half decent restaurant (with a door!!) within walking distance of Aroon Residence (right at the end of the alley leading from Aroon; down to the main road; turn right away from the "Arc" and cross over; KFE is on a corner).

The biggest problem with this hotel were the staff. The reception staff were not warm at all. No smiling, no attempt at any conversation, nothing. We felt a little like an inconvenience really. And in a country like Laos where everyone else we met was warm and friendly, this was a bit of a let down in Aroon Residence. There was also a reasonably sized language barrier at Aroon. If you're working in the tourism industry in a 3 star hotel, this is really disappointing. We were told one day they didn't have a printer so couldn't print our onward boarding passes and then the next day that they did! Very confusing!

Breakfast was basic but decent consisting of tea, coffee/ juice/ 2 eggs any style with bacon or sausage (or traditional Laos breakfast) and a baguette.

The free pickup and drop off at the airport is a helpful bonus although we found it quite painful to actually communicate to the reception guy (one of the better English speakers) as to when we wanted to leave. We wanted to go at 12:30 but the guy was just rude, kept fobbing us off until he eventually wanted to take us at 12:50 (when he was ready!!). So, my advice is if you want to leave at 12:30, tell them 12! The airport is a 20 minute drive.

Overall, we had a semi-decent stay at Aroon, but it could have been better.

I had two reservations at the Aroon Residence. Unfortunately they could not accomodate me in the same room, so I had to move. Both rooms were clean and comfortable. The first room (a suite) allowed the AC to run during the day so the room wasn't stifling upon return in the evening. The second would not, and it took a few hours for the room to cool down in the evening.

Breakfast was 'served' in the morning. I was there when it opened up. On the second morning, because a party of about 10 showed up 15 minutes early i was behind them. I waited for 30 minutes before cancelling breakfast and leaving for the airport hungry.

There are many more hotels than this that are much closer to the river where all the restaurants are. It was a long walk from this place. Because of the location I wouldn't stay here again.

Have stayed in this hotel two separate times once in a standard and the other time in superior. Both times it was a nice comfortable stay. Difference between rooms were spaciousness and in superior you get a shower over a bathtub which was a nice option. You also get a mini fridge in both rooms which is handy. Nice hotel in Laos

We were quite suprised when we arrived at the Aroon to be honest. It was kind of weird actually, this very neat, palace looking place in somewhat of a bad area. We only stayed for a stop over but the service was great. Location was ok for what we needed and the rooms were tidy and very quiet with sufficient Wifi. We did not eat here so i cant comment on food but overall this was probably one of the better "value for money" stays on our trip.

I advise heading down to the river at night time, we had a great time down there with the locals. We ended up at a pub at the end of the river having a meal and drinks for amazing value. 4 of us had a meal and 24 long necks between us for a total of $11 AU! we tipped a fair bit to the local girls who provide great service all night and are very friendly and it was the suprise packet of our trip Vientiane.

Vientiane is an odd city in that the accommodation is either overpriced or low value. Aroon Residence delivered good value at a low price in a reasonably central location.

Wifi Internet speed was sufficient for good skype voice calls, just make sure that your room isn't too far from the closest modem when you book. Alternatively, the lobby area is very fast and was pretty quiet.
While most staff can't speak sufficient English, there was almost always someone on hand who could, namely the manager and one of the assistants during my stay.
Loved having the choice between a ceiling fan and aircon.
Although the decor was basic, everything was spotless throughout.
Area was quiet, and a courtesy shuttle bus was arranged for the airport drop-off.
Breakfast was disappointing, but since breakfast was included, for the low price I wasn't expecting much.
Mosquito free.

Suggest hiring a motor bike to get around town. Aroon Residence had hired theirs out before we arrived, so suggest asking for one upon making your reservation, they have only about 3 or 4 motor bikes.

Would gladly return.

Room Tip: Book a motorbike before arriving.
