Youth Inn 1 was infested with bed bugs. We thankfully inspected the beds before paying, and left quickly. Youth Inn 2 was not. The rooms were reasonable. 'Good,' I hear you say. Well, yes, but the tale has only just begun.

Firstly, the staff were rude and unhelpful, and would say one thing very clearly, but then would later create an utterly different reality. We had our laundry done with them, and they informed us that it would be ready by 3pm the next day, and told us each how much it would cost. The next day at 3pm we were told to come back at 5. Then at 7, and then at 7:30. We gave them time and went for dinner; when we arrived at 10:30pm suddenly it would be arriving tomorrow morning. The next morning came... and it went. It was late afternoon by the time that we decided we just wanted it back, and that we didn't care what state it was in. Some of our party had booked tickets to leave that morning on the basis of their bogus promises, and had missed their coaches.

They then had the cheek to lie and finally tell us something: that it was damp. We asked where it was and discovered it was at Youth in 1 (the place with the bedbugs). Having walked down to the site where our laundry supposedly was and after waiting 5 minutes, the clothes arrived bone dry, folded and clean (though with other people's items in our bags). I suspect they had been ready for a while but the staff wanted to keep us there for yet another extra night so that they could make more money out of us. They then informed us that they would give us a discount for the trouble which had been caused, but tried to charge us more than we'd orignally be told. The SAME man informed us that our clothes were different weights from the original quoted price. Eventually he saw we weren't budging but the whole thing felt like an utter shambles.

Don't go there.

location is fine, sheets were clean but service is pretty poor, sleepy quality (we could here guests in next room and hall) pretty crappy and my shoes were stolen from the lobby, i would stay somewhere else next time. price was cheap but for $3 more you can stay next door and looked much better.

Sincerely with this price and a room cleaner each day, this could be an honnest GH. But the poor quality of service and the welcoming isn't really present. Never i see a smile, oups sorry just the first day when i ask to see the room.

The only nice thing about this hostel is the staff are friendly and even though they had just closed the cafe, when I asked to buy some water they went out of there way to get be a big bottle and insisted it was free. The internet cafe and cafe is convenient.

Unfortunately I cannot rate the room at all (double bed, fan.) After closer inspection we noticed the bed sheet was filthy and our room had been split into two by a wardrobe and wooden door that did not meet the ceiling. Although there was mesh to stop mosquito's on the main room the bathroom had no mesh and only slats for windows that did not close properly. Because the bathroom did not meet at the ceiling, even by keeping the door closed, flys and bugs could easily get into the main room. Also, the room had a double bed and single for two-three people but the single matress was so thin, it was un-sleepable and therefore we both crashed in the double. My advise, spent 10,000 Kip more and go for a Guest house recommended in the Lonely Planet Guide.

You couldn't really ask for a better location if you're on a budget! 60.000kip for a double with en suite and literally just off the riverfront.. Rooms are adequate, staff didn't speak much English though. Wifi barely worked, but otherwise not a half bad choice.

After arriving in Vientiane from Hanoi we found most guest houses were full, we were offered a room with 2 single beds for 80000kip. The room wasn't ideal with very thin walls and a bit of mould but we thought it would do for one night at such a cheap price.
We woke up to find bed bugs in the beds and checked out straight away. We had already given our laundry to the man at reception to be washed and went back to collect it at 5pm when we were told it would be ready.

First he tried giving us someone elses laundy and then eventually found ours and told us it hadn't been washed after all. Once we got back to our new hotel we discovered it had infact been washed however we had someone elses underware and tshirt. Some of our clothing was missing. We went back to return the clothing that wasn't ours and find our missing items however the man at reception said 'not understand' and "don't know". Basically he didn't want to know about it because the night before his english was near perfect. He threw the bag of clothes we returned in the corner and sent us on our way.

All in all we are very disappointed in the service and cleanliness of this hostel. It is in a good location but is a dump. for 40000 kip extra a night 100metres up the road the standard of room and service is 100 x better.

Don't stay here.

This hostel is located near the Mekong, where most of tourist hotels and restaurants are. It takes a while walking to get to the main attractions of Vientiane though.
Rooms are OK, with ensuite and AC for a very reasonable price.
Walls could be thicker and some minor details are missing: broken WC door, no tables... But I think it is more than enough for what you pay, being in Vientiane.
