Le Silipa has been at or near the top of my list of Vientiane restaurants for years. The food is consistently excellent and the service is probably the best in Laos. La Silipa should be your first choice for a night out on your way through Vientiane. My wife and I have taken business and personal guests to Silipa since 2004.

The current foie gras terrine is a treat and the specials are often adventurous but well worth it. Never miss a matched wine degustation!

This restaurant really helped improve the standard of Europen restaurants in Vientiane. The chef, Anthony, has a great flair for sauces and for presentation and with Frederick, the "face" of the place fastidious about service it is hard to beat the place. By Vientiane standards the food is a little expensive and wine prices are grossly inflated, though the range and quality is good.
There is a set menu for lunches with a good choice of salad or soup, choice from 3 mains, and choice from the entire desert list and this is quite good value.
Despite the comments of other reviewers the place is quite cozy and the atmosphere very pleasant.

Le Silapa is a small French restaurant that's located outside the town Centre, about 10 minutes walk. Also, it's not easy to find. The restaurant is quite small, but not very cozy. Its decoration lacks of any French feel. However, the soup and fish cooked quite good except that the chocolate cake is a bit disappointed. 3 course Set lunch is abolut US$12, quite reasonable. Service is just average. It should be good for casual lunch dining instead of a romantic dinner.

Excellent restaurant one of the tops in Vientiane. A varied wine selection, good service a friendly owner and welcoming atmosphere. All one really asks for when going out for diner.
Location is a bit of a sticker but once you find this place it is well worth the visit.

One reviewer stated it could "anywhere". I agree and this is a huge compliment I think. Excellent food in a capital city which could be 'anywhere"? Paris. London. New York. Winnipeg. Awesome!!

However if it were not for it's great restaurants, Vientiane, would be a city most people should by pass. Have visited many, many times and still do not see why tourist continue to spend more than a day or two? Do yourselves a favour and stay 1 night then go to LP or VV.
