“Try this place during their happy hour!”
Reviewed February 21, 2011

We tried the Makphet during their happy hour (5:30 PM until 7 PM) and highly recommend their frozen Hibiscus Daiquiri (served blended in a margarita glass) along with their Eggplant Dip (you eat it with sticky rice - it is quite spicy but full of garlic and coriander and therefore REALLY tasty!). The week we were there, they were turning people away every night so reservations are strongly suggested. Also note that they are closed at least one night a week (not sure whether it is Thursday or Friday). A colleague of mine had dinner there with her husband the week before we visited and they both LOVED their experience. All this and apparently for a good cause as well, so definitely a must when in Vientiane.

“Excellent food and service”
Reviewed February 5, 2011

We had a very pleasant, and tasty, lunch at Makphet. The standard of service was very high. It seems that the young people are being very well trained. I love that the program is for homeless kids and was relieved to find that the food was very good - equal to or better than any we had in Laos, except for the fantastic food prepared by my daughter's housekeeper. Prices are fair. We chose things that were familiar but we could not sample everything that had been found excellent in previous visits, since there were just three of us. You can't go wrong eating at Makphet, and also you support an excellent program when you do so.

“A nice way of supporting a good thing”
Reviewed January 21, 2011

Makphet is a restaurant, which trains homeless youngsters to cook and serve the food/drinks. The food was excellent with a mix of haute-cuisine and fusion when it comes to innovation and presentation. The waiters are very attentive, the decoration of the place is nice. The price range is more on the high side for the average traveller, but considering it is for the good cause, it does not hurt.

“Top restaurant in Vientiane”
Reviewed January 4, 2011

A great choice for your lunch or dinner in the Lao capital. Service is friendly, but not too intrusive, with all the staff so eager to please. The food is a fusion of Asian with some Western choices and influences. So not only do you get a good dinner, you're also helping support the restaurant mission of helping the street kids. I can't praise it highly enough!

“Most interesting restaurant in Vientiane”
Reviewed December 29, 2010

I highly recommend this restaurant not only because it is a training school for young disadvantaged youth but also because it is a truly delicious and original addition to Vientiane 's culinary scene. The pumpkin Laap is exceptional!
