Just walk down beautiful Erkindik itself, which is beautiful with all the greenery and trees. The avenue was first planted by the tsarist-ear Russians in the late 1800s and the street was called Bulvarnaya (Boulevard). It became Dzerzhinsky during Soviet times after one of the secret policemen during Stalin's times (Felix Dzerzhinsky) and then became Erkindik (Freedom in Kyrgyz) after the Soviet Union collapsed.

Love the expanse of this square. It is well maintained and attracts all ages. I love this place because people are free to play around there enjoy family times, its not overly crowded and people are friendly. Really Bishkek is such a welcoming friendly place. I feel like they are really gearing to welcome and hosting tourist.

It is a plaza with a few shops nearby. The locals were setting up for the Independence Day celebration while we were there. The fountains nearby are pretty, with lots of flowers surrounding them. Check local papers and guides to see what events might be happening during your visit. Follow Erkindik street (park) about two blocks south and you might find the Fresco ice cream truck!
