“Decor a bit old fashioned, but clean, comfortable and friendly”
Reviewed September 13, 2011

We stayed here a couple of nights in August 2011 as part of trip to central Asia.

We had room 23 (see pics): it was large, bright and clean. It had TV (old), air con, fridge, hair dryer. Had no problems with the hot water. The décor was nothing special, but not offensive. The staff were friendly. The breakfast buffet was a bit eclectic, but did the job. Overall I rather liked it.

It's old and looks like it was decorated by someone's grandmother. Forget flat screen TV's expect the old CRT kinds. Don't get me wrong, everything is fine and the free airport transportation is a nice perk, and I'd be completely satisfied if it had cost half, but not more. Lonely Planet rates it as top-end, but I have to disagree with them on this one. I'd rather look for a standard 3 Star comparable hotel at the appropriate price.

The pool is in the basement, and a bit depressing.

Oh, and it was one of the worst hotel breakfasts I've ever had. No selection, just some snacks, bread and sausages.

I last stayed here in 2009. Not much has changed - pretty much the same (helpful and friendly) staff, unpredictable and generally not delightful breakfast menu. But prices seem to have fallen and I got a suite for not all that much more than a superior double in 2009. The suite is in good condtion and spacious, altogether an acceptable place to spend 11 nights. Central location very convenient.

I came to work in Bishkek and shortly after arrival picked up a chest infection and had to stay at SIlk Road Lodge longer than I anticipated. It is no fun being sick away from home, but I found that, from the manager to cleaning and other support staff, everyone did their best to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The hotel offers a good buffet breakfast and has a varied menu for a la carte dishes. Make sure to ask for expresso coffee at breakfast otherwise you will be given ordinary instant coffee. There is a small gym area around a swimming pool together with a sauna which staff will put on for you with an hours notice. The hotel also provides a free pick up service to and from the airport, which was a great service particularly if you arrive in the early hours of the morning and first time to the country. It is quite central and a short walk from the city center. It was possible to organise internet and laundry services within the room rate. I would recommend this hotel to anybody staying in Bishkek.

Room Tip: get a suite room, best size and comfort

I spent four days here while on business in Bishkek. The staff are friendly. Location is good. The sauna is relaxing. Would stay here again.

We stayed at Silk Road Lodge for 2 weeks at the beginning of this year. It was well worth of it. This was my third stay at this hotel, this time I saw hallways, lobby and restaurant renovated. It is extra-cozy and looks fancy. There was a lot of light from the big windows in my room. After a long flight and a long drive from Almaty to Bishkek, it was a great place with a great King bed. My room was big enough to take in 5 people at a time, but I stayed alone in the room next to the elevator. Hotel employees were very friendly but serious guys. Security was always welcoming. Hotel manager was always in the lobby area greeting us.

There were news channels in English, one can dream about being in Central Asia. the most liked feature is the free library in business center.

I can not say anything bad about the hotel, it is far better than most of the hotels in US.

I love this guesthouse. While others might find it threadbare, I find it homey. Rooms are large and airy with good window light and comfortable furniture. Amenities serve expat/UN workers well: coffee pot, mini fridge, sink, ironing board, internet, TV/DVD player and exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. If you are here for a while, be sure to ask the manager about recommendations for local tour guides who will take you into the stunning nearby mountains for hikes. picnics, etc. I travel for work constantly and only wish I had everywhere the kind of relationship with hotel staff that I have here.
