a ***** 'western' hotel in a former soviet country must be good surely?...yes it was....though HORRENDOUSLY expensive....a past midnight check in was s l o w ...only 3 people before me ...2 clerks on reception....but it took about 35 minutes before i got my room key.....the room was very well appointed...temperature about right for the wintry conditions outside....the bed was very comfortable....the bathroom facilities were excellent....my room faced the road and the river...traffic noise on the road was not a problem because of the effective double glazing....there were over 20 tv channels in english ....an excellent variety....breakfast was very good indeed...hot dishes were indeed hot...and the selection of everything else gives you a wide choice ...you will not go hungry....not having a pc i was happy to find a row of computers in the lobby which allowed guests free access to the internet.....this facility has to be set against the room rate...(in my almaty hotel i was charged 20 us dollars an hour for internet usage).....all in all an excellent stay...i can recommend this hotel if you have plenty of money to pay the bill.....

Room Tip: upper floor looking towards the river

The Radisson is a high end business hotel in Astana attached to an office building. The hotel restaurant serves an excellent breakfast buffet. The lunch buffet looks alot like the breakfast selection, but is a quicker meal than the supposedly speedy "business lunch" deals found at restaurants all over the city. Dinner is mediocre. Facilities are excellent - you can get a day pass to the gym, which is in the hotel building but run as a separate business - it's a huge facility with a pool and a Turkish steam bath. Rooms are well appointed but here's a tip - with creakingly slow elevators, consider asking for a lower level room if you don't like waiting or going for a slow ride with multiple stops on your way up/down. Outside and under the hotel are 3 excellent apres-office places - a seasonal lounge, a bar and a restaurant (Chivas, Barkhat, Pivnica). Good places to unwind after a long day.. and a short walk to get there from the hotel - crucial, given Astana's extreme temperatures.

Room Tip: With creakingly slow elevators, consider asking for a lower level room if you don't like waiting...

This is possible the best hotel in Astana so please read my comments in the context that standards in Astana Hotels are very low / poor. There are a number of new hotels (international chains) such as Marrioot, ritz carlton four seasons etc under construction which hopefully will add more competition and consequently improve quality. The prices however given the kind of hotels under construction may not come down.

Have stayed here twice in the past two months.

The lobby is old fashioned and large with a coffee shop at the far end. The reception itself is small with 3 checkers. The check in was smooth. The rooms are average and for a radisson probably below average. Average furniture (plasticy feel) and disappointing interiors the room is at best average (could argue disappointing on the whole). The bathroom was clean and ok. The shower in my room was broken in both my stays and the over head shower had poor flow. The shower for some reason did not have any shower gel or soap. The only soap was at the sink to wash. The TV channels were limited and other than CNN had no english.

They have one restaurant which also serves breakfast. Breaskfast was ok - veggies wont get anything beyond fruits and bread. I was told, other than Pizza, there were no vegetarian options for lunch / dinner. Decided to eat out. The hotel has a number of restaurants at the basement level which struggle to provide for veggy food but atleast try. This place also has a night club which opens only on the weekends.

The gym is in an adjoining building and can be accessed through an interconnected passage way on production of a coupon one must collect from the reception. the gym is a very large commercial facility. Was ok not befitting a 4/5 star experience.

Overall, horribly priced below average hotel but I am told still the best in Astana

I don' travel too much to this city, but since the last time I was here, the city changed a lot!
I guess, there are not so many 5 star hotels here, so there is no competitors of that level. Assuming all that I would give 4 stars (not 5), just because I know the 5-star hotels in other countries and cities.
Overal, the location of hotel is beautiful: right by the river and park, close to the business center - Arman (which is pretty convenient if you plan to have business meetings). The only complain is that depending upon the particular room of choice it may be a bit noisy since a busy street is right by the hotel.

They are sure to have spa and fittness center, but I never used the last one, so no particular comments can be given from my side.

Service is great! At least based on my little Astana experience. Polite, hospitable and attentive staffs are ready to help you at an earliest convenience.

I would recommend to chose a room with a river view and at a higher floor, since you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of Astana.

So, in overal - good job!

Room Tip: Chose the one with a river view and as high as possible

Along main avenue, walking distance to mall, restaurants, and Khan Satyr mall. Decent free hot breakfast with eggs to order. Nice fitness center in basement accepts hotel guests for free. Fitness center is like LA fitness with swimming pool and saunas (Turkish, steam, dry). Along river bank... nice walk along the banks. Courteous staff.

The property is slowly getting old but kept nice and clean. Economy rooms are on the smaller side but bathrooms, with no tub but a large walk-in shower with rainshower is pretty nice. It's not the best in Kazakhstan like a previous commentstor stated but the best in Astana. Room phones have single button for all services. One night, our very simple '2 Hamburgers' was not understood but nobody admitted. 30 minutes, second phone call cleared the misunderstanding but then the order was not there 35 minutes later. The manager promised something complimentary. Burgers showed up in 5 minutes, 70 minutes later but complimentary plate never ever come ! Ordered room service 4 other times with no serious problem. Classic FSU hotel inconsistency, one night no mustard, other night no mayo, or all ketchup, one night 2 rolls and butter, other 5 rolls no butter.
One day, hosekeeping did not come. After call, they came right away. Breakfast is the biggest plus compare to other competitors. Small but everything high quality. Excellent teas, complimentary espresso, parma ham, danish blue cheese etc etc, breakfast staff friendly and efficient from waffle lady to table waiters. Best breakfast buffet in Astana. Complimentary wi-fi is the other big plus. Hotel is located next to somewhat pleasant riverwalk. Next to hotel, there is a small supermarket, and by the riverwalk, in 2 kms there is a Ramstore supermarket. It should be around €13 taxi ride, around 20 minutes to airport but late arrivals will pay more because Astana taxi drivers will refuse to turn taximeter. Rixos has slighly better location but for breakfast I will say Radisson is slighly better. Check-in was OK, check-out, thanks to intelligent staff, was quick and problem free

I have stayed at the hotel 2 weeks for business. The staff speaks good English and is usually very helpful with any request. The rooms are spacious and clean. There are some negative aspects though: in my room the air conditioning was not working properly and most of the times I could either not switch it off, or I could not change the temperature;the handle of the wardrobe door was broken; a couple of times the maid forgot to give me towels and complimentary water. I would not be so picky usually, but from the best (rated) hotel in Astana I was expecting more attention to details. Plus, the breakfast is not as good as in other chain hotels: not so much selection and the bread/croissants are never fresh. Overall, good impression, but some things need to be improved.
