Ramada Plaza Astana
Ranked #21 of 61 Hotels in Astana
Reviewed August 22, 2013

The hotels in Astana charge outrageous prices. As such, this hotel may be a necessary choice. But it is neither in the new, nor the old centre (close to the latter). it is very outdated. Depressing fitness centre. Spa is OK. Very friendly and nice Turkish owned restaurant downstairs. Rooms very colorless. Staff inexperienced but try to the good.

The hotel is at a first look not bad at all. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Impressive lobby with nice bar. Once you come to the room, it is clear they are very old and not up to date. Shower head was broken, and it took up to 10 minutes to get hot water. AC was broken. Old furnitures in room and bathroom. I do not understand how they stillncan charge 250USD per night, but I understand why the hotel was empty.

Stayed at Ramada Plaza in May as other hotels were full due to the Astana Economic Forum days.
As I knew Astana well enough and had been to Ramada Plaza before, I mostly knew what to expect from the hotel so Ramada did not much surprise me.
Though it's the first 5 star hotel in Astana, and some new and luxury hotels appeared with time, I still found Ramada's Interiors luxurious and the hotel itself good for staying. In its Windsor lounge you can find a cosy place for a glass of wine and a friendly chat. Turkish restaurant (Sultan restaurant) serves a very good food. Breakfast served in PUCCINI'S restaurant is as well with a variety of choices. I never had lunch after this breakfast.
Staff is friendly and provides service with a smile.
Rooms are in need of renovation, but still clean and comfortable. Bathroom has all necessary toiletries, normal quality. Toilets were changed daily.
I really loved Wellness Centre and think it’s a wonderful place to relax. Besides it’s included in the room’s price.
As a conclusion I would say that I prefer Ramada Plaza to Rixos as I like location better.

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the high floor, not facing the construction site

This hotel has improved considerably and now rivals both Raddison and Rixos in respect of luxury hotels in Astana. In terms of value for money it is the clear winner!

Formerly an InterContinental this is the oldest five star hotel in the City and despite renovation some of the rooms and the plumbing are a little dated. However this is more than compensated for by standards of service and cleanliness which, having stayed at all three , are by far the best. Breakfast is an excellent buffet which is always kept well replenished and service was very good at the busiest of times. With so many excellent hotels in the area you are not likely to take other meals at the hotel but the lunch buffet is also to be recommended

I stayed in this hotel for a business for one day only, so I could not try any of its facilities. The room service is very expensive, but good and pretty fast. Breakfast is delicious and has vast variety of meals and snacks. Previously it used to be Intercontinental, but then the manager was changed and I assume the main problem was the absence of timely renovation. Rooms are big, but they cry for new furniture and some maintenance (at least in the bathroom). The bed was queen-sized, rather than king-sized as it was promised. The staff is very friendly. Not the centric location anymore and it can take up to half an hour to reach Ramstore which is just 3 blocks away. It cost abt 200 usd for a standard room which is nothing for Astana. So if you need to stay in the old-town (right riverside), then this would be probably your choice.

At its prime this may have been an impressive hotel. Sadly now it is showing its age once you get past the entrance and into the accommodation part. The air-conditioning did not function all that well and windows cannot be opened to alleviate the temperature of the room. The staff was very friendly and accommodating in their manner most times. Tried to have lunch in the outside restaurant, not pleasant as the waitress too busy because 1/3 of the restaurant was occupied. The service was slow and the food was below average. There was a pool and sauna area, however the pool was on its maintenance leaving the sauna available. Sadly they did not feel warmer than the hottest summer day in the UK, therefore a bit of a blip.
To get to the attractions will take at least a taxi or if you like a good work out it is over an hour to get to the sights which can be done via a walk next to the river (pleasant).
On the plus side: the bed is comfortable and the hotel is quiet which is very valuable.
So if you look for basic and clean this is fine. The view over the city spectacular as much thought had gone into creating a skyline.

I stayed here for two nights last week for a business trip. The hotel is dated and not that nice inside. It looks great from the outside. The rooms are old and furnishings are cheap. I would not stay here again. Location is in the older part of Astana and not within walking distance of any of the sights of downtown.
