When we arrived at the Frangipani Villa 90s we explained that we booked 2 nights but wanted to break them so as to visit Ankor Wat because we didn’t realise it would take so long to travel around Cambodia. We asked if we could stay on the 28th travel on the 1st and return on the 2nd but they said that this is not possible and suggested that we could either stay for 3 days of stay one and pay for 2, pointing out the hotel’s policy on bookings..
“Guaranteed reservations cancelled less than 72 hours prior to arrival will be subject to a one-night charge, and a full charge of maximum nights booked in the event of non-arrival on the day. In order to avoid cancellation charges you must advise a cancellation at least 72 hours in advance. “
We explained that this would ruin our holiday but they just shrugged their shoulders!

Annoyed, we left the hotel to draw money out from a nearby ATM. As luck would have it we lost our card due to a timeout problem with the machine so we were forced to stay for 2 days. We explained what happened to the staff on the Frangipani desk telling them that we had no money and asked if they could lend us a few dollars for food and drinks until tomorrow. We offered to leave our passports/laptop or camera as guarantee but they refused point blank. So we retired to our room hungry and tired following a long slow coach ride from Ho Chi Minh without so much as a welcome drink as promised in their reservation details..
It’s not until you need help that you find out which hotel provides a courteous service to its guests.

The Frangipani Villa 90s ($40) had large room that was clean but well overpriced considering it’s was about a 45 minute walk from the Grand Palace and all the other attractions in Phnom Penh. We manage to book the Cozyna Hotel that was 5 minutes walk from the Grand Palace for $23 on the promenade with a sea view.

We wish that he could have understood worldwide hotel booking policy and we wish that he could have informed us in 72 hrs in advance so that we could accommodate his stay comfortably. Based on our policy, we cannot accept a prompt split booking into several days on the check-in day as we reserved a room for only him for a long time and could not give his room to other guests and the guest was well informed about this policy. Such an inconvenient thing could have not happened if the guest just spent few minutes dropped us an e-mail informing the change of his/her travelling plan for 72 hrs in advance, not suddenly changed his traveling plan and asked us to keep a room for him by splitting his booking into 2 different times (one night on 28 Feb and another night on 2 and 3 March). The guest insisted to check out earlier given that his booking through hotelclub for 3 consecutive days without bearing an extra charge. Based on instant booking policy and our policy, the guest can check out earlier with one day extra charge.
We accommodated and facilitated throughout his stay (for example, lending money for transportation and money for other things and then money for food and drink) but we could not afford to lend him money all the times. When he borrowed us more money again, we run out of money from the box, so we could not lend him any penny but we never ever let our guests starving or feel hungry as we have plenty of food in the restaurant. we wish he could post true/accurate information on money borrowing issue, not tried to defame our place by posting untrue/inaccurate information to make other reviewers misguided our place (the guests wanted to borrow some money by guaranteeing his passport only not offering us laptop or camera as guarantee and he also tried to force us to accept Vietnamese currency, that is not used in Cambodia). For the credit card matter, it was not our responsibility; it was his own mistake to withdraw money without remembering his own password and we also not forced him to stay at our place; it was his own decision/choice.
We wish the guest know where our property is in the map shown in the homepage and how far from the royal place and other places and moreover know room rate well before decided to make a booking. Our place is located in the center not close to riverside as clearly stated in the homepage. Room rate is clearly posted in the homepage and the guest comes to stay with agreed prices. A suite room where the guest stayed might be more expensive than $40 in other boutique hotels and there might be hard to find such a nice room at a boutique hotel. We accommodated his stay at a suite room as we did not have a deluxe room for his stay.
We always offer a welcome drink but the guest check in late night so usually we prepare a drink for the guest in the following day. Our staff forgot to check with the guest in the morning for the welcome drink. We definitely improve our service on the welcome drink and other service but not on money lending service.

Very nice small hotel with very attentive staff. Rooms very pleasant, although like other reviewers we did notice the building work next door. However this didn't affect our sleep.
Breakfasts were excellent - cooked in front of you with a fresh fruit plate. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Palace and Silver pagoda complex, and the lively riverside and the Western style coffee, cake and light meals cafe - The Shop, is less than 10 minutes away. There is internet access downstairs although the pcs was slow.
We stayed at Frangipani at the start of our 5 week trip around Asia in January 2010 and at the end of it in February. The staff were keen to help, and happy to talk so they could continue to improve their English. Would definitely stay here again.

We had a huge suite booked here and were very happy with the room. It was clean and airy. The decor wouldn't be to everyones taste - all polished concrete and metal windows but after a long dusty bus cramped noisy bus ride this place was just perfect. Some of the decor was beginning to look a bit tired - the place wil be soon due a lick of paint - especially if the claims of being a boutique hotel are still being made.

It was great to be away from the seediness of the riverside area.
The staff were very nice and helpful.

In the literature the managment claim to have good management ethos and good environmental ethos etc - this is great and so I thought it a bit odd that there was no ham available at breakfast (we were in the middle of a city surrounded by shops!) and that the breakfast juice was all from concentrate (we were ina country full of fresh fruit!) - small things I know but if you are claiming to be something special these things get noticed.

If you are planning to be up and about early we would totally recomend this place, however if you are planning a lie in of any sort - ie after 7am would prob give it a miss for now - until the building work next door is complete and after the howling puppies have gone to new homes.

Sorry but $50 was too much - bad location too - nice breakfast though and a couple of small perks (e.g. free bikes, 2 pieces of free laundry a day) made it a bit better. Construction next door made the stay noisy and unpleasant.

Thank you very much for your comments. We are pleased to inform that suite room rate (a living room, a small kitchen, large bathroom and queen bed room) is $50 (shown in the guesthouse homepage) and applied to all guests and the rate is always agreed in advance and it might be hard to find such a nice room at that rate in other boutique guesthouses. The guesthouse is located at street 252, it is about 10 mns walk to independent monument, 15 mns walk to Royal Palace and it is close to many tourist areas. Moreover, the guesthouse map is in the homepage or it can be found in Google map and the guest can understand whereabouts the guesthouse is and can decide to stay or not to stay at the hotel. For the minor house renovation next door, it is negative externality that we often experience in developing countries and we cannot avoid but we will try all of our best to minimize all negative externalities.

We stayed at frangapani 60s Villa. We realised that there were two locations and clarified that at the beginning. The location was ideal. The villas were really great, better than they look on the internet. They were elegantly decorated and really clean. There was a room with a bed for the adults and one for the kids and also a seperate kitchen/dining/living area with a TV, fridge etc. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We really enjoyed staying there and loved visiting PP. We payed $60 for a great room for 4 of us including breakfast. You cant beat that! The only down side was that there is some sort of Korean church close by so they make some sort of wailing noise at about 6am each day. It lasts for about half an hour. One of the best days we had in PP was that we did a trip with Mangocambodia.com called "good day cambodia" with Sophea. If you have kids and dont want to do the killing fields etc this is great. You go to his village with him and spend a day with real cambodians. You can have a ride in an ox cart and teach an english class to local kids and eat what the locals eat. It wasa really good fun day. Also the absolute best resturant in town is Romdeng, you MUST go and have a meal there. The food is great the place is soooo stylish and the staff are friendly and the best thing is that it gives back to the local community.
