I have just read the previous review. I also had the same experiences. I booked over internet. Hotel quote was $10,was told would be picked up from Bus Station. No transport arrived ,was told driver went to wrong bus station. On phoning from bus station, lady owner said her driver went to wrong place.Take a Tuk Tuk and she will pay. On arrival at hotel, she refused to pay what I had paid the Tuk Tuk driver. She informed me the room was $12 and not $10 as she had stated. Excellent room, but there was no drinking glass nor soap and I had to ask for toilet paper, I stayed 5 days, towels changed twice. The day before I left I paid the $7 she quoted for a taxi to take me to the airport. I especially wanted a taxi because I wear contact lens and did not want dust etc in my eyes before flying out. A few minutes before taxi arrived she said, taxi not come, take my nephews Tuk Tuk,which I did. I appears she had the time to pay her nephew $2 before we left, but she kept my extra $5. In many ways she was quite friendly to me probably as her daughters are married to NZers, but behind it all ,I think a very corrupt greedy woman. I later emailed her to let her know what I thought of her and her guest house and that she was part of the corruption that is Cambodia.
Its not so much the money involved its the way its fraudentily taken from you thats upsetting. Going by previous comment,I think she tries the same trick on many people.

We planned to stay at Phnom Penh for 24 hours and intended to cover most of the important locations. We chose Royal Guesthouse for its location on the Road No. 154, just a 10 min walk to the National Museum and 15 min walk to the Royal Palace.

When I booked through the guesthouse over the internet, I was told that the guesthouse would send a vehicle to pick us up at the Mekong Express Bus stop- when we landed, we found that there was no one to receive us. Amidst the chaos of greedy Tuk-tuk drivers, someone from the Mekong-Express Office offered to call the hotel- and the vehicle finally arrived in 10 mins.

The moment we reached the hotel- we understood what other travellers meant when they said that the owner (lady) was only concerned to sell the taxi services.

The lady and her daughter were most concerned to sell us the Taxi for sight-seeing at fabulous amounts. All this was a rude shock, because even after taking the money for the 3 rooms we booked, nobody offered to hand over the keys and show us the rooms.

Now, one has to admit, the accommodation was cheap at $12 for a Air-Con Double a night. The rooms are spacious and just okay- refrigerators resemble museum artifacts, but still it was comfortable- we had problems with the toilet flush- and had to report it several times before it was solved (only partially)- and on every visit we made to the reception was punctuated with questions of our sight-seeing in Phnom Penh. It was indeed quite disgusting.

We had booked their Van for the airport drop- and then there was another shock- the owner told us "the AC is not working"- and the driver revealed that the vehicle's AC has been removed long back- a parting gift from Royal Guesthouse.

Pros: Excellent Location, Next to Norodom Boulevard, short walks to some of the important locations- service staff quite friendly.

Cons: Greedy Management- too pushy to sell their sight-seeing trips- does not bother to solve problems!
