Booked this hotel on the previous reviews and definetly wasn't disappointed. We booked a private pool room which had a large 4 poster bed. The quiet location was great and we picked up a tuk tuk outside the hotel and used him for our 3 days. He took us round the usual tourist sites and dropped us off and picked us up at the riverside area each night. The staff at the hotel were great and provided us with a very high standard of service. The breakfast is probably smaller than I've seen at other hotels but was adequate. I would recommend the private pool rooms for that quiet, out of the way feeling. It is a beautiful villa with lovely grounds. A great few days.

I booked this on the basis of the reviews I had read and it did not dissapoint. On oasis of calm and tranquility in the heart of the city. Had a four poster room with a private pool. Had to drag myself out to visit the sites.

My wife and I and our two teenagers stayed here 3 times on a trip through Cambodia, and found it each time a great relief from tensions we experienced elsewhere in our travels. The lovely pool, the gorgeously-appointed rooms, the quiet and rich greenery in the courtyards, and above all the kindness and courtesy of all the staff made staying here one of the real joys of our visit. I can't stress the helpfulness of the staff enough: we faced a number of sticky issues, from our teenager's having her bag stolen on the street, with her hotel key in it, to my failure to book one of our nights properly, and each time the people at the front desk helped us efficiently and graciously.

The breakfasts were also very tasty - the one thing I missed, after a while, was a bit of variety there. Adding cereal to the menu (the sister hotel has muesli available) would be a great idea.

My boyfriend and I chose the Pavillion as our "splurge" during a long trip through SE Asia. Great location within walking distance of many restaurants and points of interest. Beautiful grounds, inviting saltwater pool, and rooms that are rustically luxurious with crisp white linens, wooden furniture, and bold accents. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, as well as a variety of food and drinks that are perfect for those nights that you just don't feel like venturing out into the city. Choose from snacks, French, Khmer, desserts, and more. While more luxurious rooms (re: private pool) are more pricey, and while this place is definitely expensive for Cambodia, even a more budget-oriented traveler could spend a night here.

Be wary of using a credit card here - The Pavillion was literally the only place in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, or Malaysia where my credit card was "rejected."

The Pavilion indeed unfortunately only accepts Visa and Master cards, as this is what our bank accepts. Unlike many outlets in Cambodia, we do not charge any commission for it. Around 60% of our guests pay by credit card. But surely we prefer cash!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough, it's a beautiful old colonial setting with lovely rooms, staff and pool. I'd highly recommend booking the rooms with private pools, a little bit more expensive but well worth it.

We had 3 nights here mid June and loved it. We had the room with our own pool (6m x 3m) and i think that was the best. It was so good to come home and stripped off and get into the pool. All private and so relaxing and refeshing. The room was nice too and so is the bathroom.

The staff very nice and the breakfast was excellant. The passionfruit drink was something from heaven each morning. We also had lunch here one day and the toasted sandwich was lovely.

The main pool was great although as we had our own we did not use it.

You can easily walk to some places for tea each night (5min) and to walk to the Royal Palace is 10min and the main river is another 5m from there. Great location.

We booked a transfer via this hotel and the driver was great. His name was Ra. He also took us around to the Killing Fields and S21 for the day. Friendly and helpful.

Cambodia is just great. Cheap, lovely people and my fav was Siem Reap. Such a great smaller place.

This hotel is well worth staying in. Loved it.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It all started when we fell in love with a hidden gem of French-Khmer architecture from the 1920s near Wat Botum, one of the most venerable and original pagodas in Phnom Penh. Renovation and remodeling were led with due respect for the character of a building which had been, as we learnt it later on, a private retreat for Queen Consort Sisowath Kossamak, the late King Sihanouk's mother. Opened on August, 18, 2006 with 10 rooms, The Pavilion has slowly expanded over the years, offering now 36 accommodations throughout three more period buildings that have been added to the property: "The New House", former residence of the chief veterinarian at the Royal Palace; "The New Villa", formerly the private residence of a Cambodian senator, and "The Sun-Pool Villa", our latest addition which used to be lodgings for diplomats based in Phnom Penh. Each one has its own style and atmosphere, with distinctive architectural features such as an elaborate wooden stairway, intricate iron wrought railings, etc… ... more   less
